On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…DUI left 48 year old Lloyd Light of Dubois charged by Ridgway troopers after they stopped the accused last evening. Reports states that Light was stopped by troopers along Route 219 in the Village of Brockport.

Scattering rubbish 2 miles north of Eldred Borough remains under investigation by troopers in Kane. They tell us someone scattered garbage on property owned by Andrea Gustke of Vienna, WV on several occasions between November 2004 and last Wednesday. Those who may have information regarding this incident are asked to contact Kane PSP at 778-5555.

Aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child charges were filed against 2 Roulette residents recently. John Post Sr and Daily Post were both cited in connection with injuries to a 6 month old child between Thursday and Saturday of last week. Both individuals were taken into custody before John Post Sr. was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. Daisy Post was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Both accused individuals were taken before on-call District Justice Barbara Easton. John post Sr. was sent to jail on $150,00 straight bail while Daisy Post was released on $35,000 unsecured bail.

And troopers from the Coudersport based state police barracks are asking us to warn listeners about a lottery scam via postal mail from International Companies. They tell you you’ve won a lottery you didn’t enter. If you have questions you’re to contact your local bank or check the Federal Trade Commission website.

The change-over at the former Ness Landfill took place yesterday morning with those answering the phone, "Hello. Rustick Landfill." $17 million in cash was paid for the landfill in Hitchins by Rustic LLC of Pottsville, with payments guaranteed over the next 2 decades.

In other business news…Archer’s in Bradford is closing. Owner Jack Archer was quoted as saying that he’d like to be closed as soon as possible. Although the closing could take several months.

Representative Martin Causer has announced his office hours for tomorrow. He’ll be in Emporium at the borough office from 9:00am to 10:00am, in Port Allegany at their borough office from 10:30 to 11:30 and in Eldred from 12:30 to 1:30.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…Carla Walker, 30, of Johnsonburg was traveling south on Route 219 yesterday morning, according to Ridgway based state police. Around 4:46am Walker’s 91 Chrylser 5th Avenue drifted onto the west berm before going out of control upon re-try onto Route 219. The Walker vehicle then slid across both lanes of traffic, striking a stone embankment and then spinning onto 219 where it came to rest. Walker was taken to Elk Regional for treatment of moderate injuries.

A 3 vehicle accident occurred yesterday morning along Route 219, south of Lewis Run. Kane troopers responding tell WQRM Tabatha Colts, 19, of Bradford was traveling north in a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe. Penda Distrola, 51, of Bradford was traveling south in a 2001 Bluebird school bus and Kevin Niver, 44, of Bradford was driving a 99 GMC 2500 pickup in a southerly direction. Colts crossed the center line, striking the rear of the school bus Distrola was operating. Colts then struck the rear of the Niver vehicle. Both the Colts vehicle and the Niver vehicle entered the west berm, while the school bus driven by Distrola entered the west berm. No children were on the bus at the time of the incident and charges were filed against Colts for driving on the right side of the roadway in addition to having restrictions on a license. Colts was also treated at BRMC for minor injuries.

Theft from the Pincock resident along Foster Circle in Port Allegany remains under investigation by Kane PSP after Lora Pincock told troopers that some time between July 19th and Sunday someone removed several items from her jewelry box.

Criminal mischief yesterday along Route 146 in Norwich Township remains under investigation. Mark Foltz, 23, of Smethport told state police that someone damaged his vehicle’s windshield with a sharp object last evening. Also damaged were the side windows, back window and body damage to the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact trooper at 778-5555.

An assault last evening at the BP parking lot in Horton Township, Elk County remains under investigation after a known actor assaulted Christopher Baka, 40, of Brockway. Baka was struck in the face, which resulted in his lip being cut.

The ice cream store on 4th Street in Emporium was burglarized according to our checks with state police there. Troopers tell WQRM someone entered the store between 11:00pm on Sunday and 12:45pm yesterday. Once entry was gained through the back door, $19.00 was removed before those involved left.

Criminal mischief Saturday left Robert Wright of Roulette charged after he reportedly damaged the grill on a car owned by Lisa DeGroat, also a Roulette resident. The damaged occurred following an argument between the two individuals.

A dedication service for all war veterans from Hamlin Township will be held at 11:00am on Labor Day at Hamlin Park. The public is welcome.

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…Coudersport based state police are investigating an accident which occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday. Keri Powell, 21, of Austin was traveling north on Route 872 when she lost control of the vehicle she was operating. Coudersport bases state police tell WQRM Powell and her passenger, 25 year old Krystopher Powell were both wearing seatbelts and received only minor injuries when their vehicle collided with a tree when the operator failed to negotiate a curve along Route 872, resulting in the Powell vehicle hitting a tree and overturning on private property. DUI charges pare pending.

Ridgway based state police tell us Kimberly Washington, 42, of Black Jack Missouri was traveling Spring Creek Road Saturday when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway just before the Irwin Canoe Launch. Her 2001 Mitsubishi Galant then left the roadway, traveled down an embankment coming to rest in the creek.

Ridgway based state police tell us George Heigel, 62, of Kersey told Ridgway troopers over the weekend that someone hit his parked 2002 Buick Le Sabre while it sat at 352 Main Street in the village. Damage was sustained to the rear and driver’s side. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Ridgway PSP at 776-6136.

A drug investigation involving a known 17 year old from Ulysses continues. Coudersport based state police tell WQRM the female was in possession of a white powdery substance on Friday. Initial testing was positive as a reaction to cocaine. The investigation continues, pending lab results.

A criminal mischief investigation at Northwood’s Tavern in Coudersport continues by state police there after someone punctured a tire on a vehicle owned by Daniel Bates of Olean Saturday morning. The Bates’ 2004 Chevrolet Colorado sustained $75.00 in damages as a result.

A criminal mischief investigation into damage to a grill on a car owned by Lisa DeGroat of Roulette continues by Coudersport PSP. Trooper tell us a known suspect damaged the grill following an argument on Saturday.

And burglary at the Allegany Pub in Emporium was investigated by troopers there after an incident on Friday. Troopers from the state police barracks tell us someone removed the Pub’s outside air conditioning unit between 2:45 and 5:00am. Once inside, those involved took several cases of alcoholic beverages.

No further information in available regarding the death investigation of former Coudersport resident Patrick Ryan, who’s body was found Tuesday in Forest County. Ryan was first reported as missing August 14th.

According to reports, the shops at Foster Brook in Bradford are for sale. The plaza, the home to such shops as Radio Shack, Subway and Tina’s Hallmark, is owned by Bradford Properties LLC of Mento, Ohio.

Over 100 firefighters were on the scene of a tire fire over the weekend in the village of Wellsville. Reports indicate that fire broke out at the former Otis Eastern Services on Route 44 Saturday afternoon. A state of emergency was declared and the village residents were urged by media outlets to leave the area or at least close their windows and stay inside. Two firefighters were taken to Jones Memorial for treatment of smoke inhalation. It was believed that a controlled burn in the vicinity may have contributed to the start of the tire fire.

Checking the PennDOT schedule for this week. In McKean County, crack sealing will be done on Route 6 from Mount Jewett to Smethport, shoulders will be filled from Route 321 to Route 59 and along Bells Run. Hot patching will be done on Route 6464 in Cyclone and on Route 446 in Eldred. And side dozing will be done on Route 321 and Route 59 to Route 346.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…all was reportedly quiet. State police in our listening area tell us there were no related incidences to report either.

Wednesday saw a juvenile allegation filed against a youth involved in the theft of two scooters taken from the Gerald Lamb residence in Shinglehouse. Coudersport based state police tell us the juvenile was charged in connection with the removed of the scooters from Lamb’s Manley Avenue property some time between midnight and 5:00pm on the 15th.

And Emporium based state police arrested Francisco Soto, 20, for his alleged involvement in an incident of aggravated assault on June 20th in Emporium. Reports state that Soto grabbed the victim, 23 year old Raymond Banks, slamming his head against the pavement in the borough, knocking the victim unconscious.

Authorities in Forest County have recovered the body of Patrick Ryan, a former Coudersport resident and son of Dr. and Mrs. Peter Ryan. Ryan was reported as missing after he failed to make contact with his girlfriend, Melissa Ernst, who is a New Jersey resident. Ernst contact Ryan’s parents and they, in turn, contact police to report their son as missing. Clarion County Coroner Norman Wimer is classifying this as a homicide at this time. No cause of death has yet been released.

And Cattaraugus County lawmakers agreed Wednesday to leave the current 4% sales tax in effect through November 30, 2007. Funds raised are used for road and bridge improvements in the county.

 

This is WQRM Regional News for Thursday, August 25, 2005

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…according to Coudersport based state police, an accident along Route 44 in Sweden Township was investigated by their barracks. Around 8:25pm a 17 year old was operating a 2003 Dodge sedan southbound, while Mark Watson, 26, of Coudersport was operating a 2001 Ford pickup in a northerly direction. The female teen operator attempted a left turn, failing to yield the right of way to Watson. As operator 1 was crossing into the northbound lane, Watson attempted to avoid the other driver. Unable to do so, the Watson truck struck the front of the 2003 Dodge sedan. Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane. Watson and a passenger in the other vehicle both sustained minor injuries.

Criminal mischief between Tuesday and Wednesday was investigated by Ridgway based state police after Julianne Anderson of Ridgway told troopers that someone dented the rear trunk lid of her Dodge Neon. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact troopers in Ridgway.

Theft from property owned by the B and P Railroad in Rochester, NY left the company with a loss of approximately $2,240.00 after someone took 2,240 feet of coated copper wire from property in Jones Township, Elk County.

Terroristic threats Tuesday has left a known person in trouble with Emporium based state police after the individual threatened emporium resident Joseph Linton with a handgun. No charges are pending at this time and the investigation continues.

Criminal mischief along Allegheny Avenue in Emporium was investigated by State Police there. A report issued states that someone threw garbage onto the porch of Richard Moate before fleeing.

Andrea Gustke, 39, of Vienna, WV was the victim of a burglary which occurred between January 11th and this past Monday at her residence along Route 446, ½ mile north of Route 346. Gustke told Kane based state police someone entered her residence, removing various items. Sheet metal and wood was also removed from several buildings on the property before the actors departed. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Kane troopers at 778-5555.

Theft by deception remains under investigation by Coudersport PSP after someone was hired in late 2004 to do repair work at the home of Charles Lewis of Austin. Austin told troopers that to date, no work has been done and the work had already been paid for.

And Heather Lundy, 22, of Hume, NY is being investigated by Coudersport based state police after she reportedly took hundreds of dollars from Potter County Human Services, while she was employed there.

A string of incidences in 3 Elk County townships remains under investigation by troopers from the Ridgway barracks. Over a 48 hour period, a cow on a farm was butchered, 8 seasonal residences were burned and 2 vehicles and a mailbox were hit by gunfire. We’re told by troopers that 3 individuals have been arrested in connection with the arsons. The investigation continues and anyone with information is urged to contact troopers at 776-6136 or Elk County Crimestoppers at (800) 775-2030.

22 year old former Bradford resident, Jeremy Hatch, accused in the death of his son, Jeremy Hatch Jr has been denied entry into boot camp. In early April, Hatch entered a guilty plea in several counts leading up to the death of his son. Judge John Yoder stated Hatch was eligible for boot camp back in May, during a sentencing hearing. Prison officials are now saying that due to an unresolved issue, Hatch is not eligible for boot camp.

A state EMS Department bill introduced by Representative Martin Causer has strong backing, according to reports. This legislation is also supported by Kersey’s Representative Dan Surra.

 

This is WQRM Regional News for Wednesday, August 24, 2005

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…all state police barracks in the WQRM listening area tell us all was quiet. There were no related incidences to report either.

Criminal trespass in the early morning hours of yesterday remains under investigation according to Ridgway based state police. At 12:15 yesterday morning in Kersey, Fox Township, someone entered the Angela Reed residence. The person then fled in an unknown direction. The investigation continues and nothing was reportedly taken. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Ridgway PSP.

Aggravated assault at an apartment rented by Adam Weston of Emporium occurred yesterday morning around 3:00. Emporium based state police rerpot that they responded to the scene to find Joseph Linton, 44, of Emporium had forced entry into the Weston residence. Once inside, Linton threatened Weston with a knife. Linton later left and no one was injured during the incident. The accused has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, criminal trespass, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief. Linton was sent to the Elk County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

And an accident on the 18th in Hamlin Township was responded to by Kane troopers around 5:21pm. Tony Cox, 31, of Cyclone was traveling east on Rotute 6 when he failed to observe a 93 Chevrolet Tracker being operated by Darrell Kribbs of Kane. Kribbs was stopped in the eastbound lane at the time, leaving Cox to swerve in an attempt to miss the Kribbs vehicle. The front of the Cox vehicle impacted the rear of the Kribbs vehicle, pushing the Kribbs Tracker into the westbound lane, where it struck the rear of a 96 Jeep Cherokee driven by Adi Rapport of Carrboro, NC. Cox attempted to flee the scene of the accident, only to be apprehended later by troopers. Kribbs was taken to Kane Community Hospital for treatment. No injuries were reported by the other drivers or the passengers involved.

The bell will now ring at Bradford Area High School 10 minutes later than before, in an attempt to ease bussing concerns. Students are to be in their homerooms by 8:00, with the first class beginning at 8:07am. The day will end at 2:45 and Monday is the first day for students.

And an unspecified matter at the Bradford Housing Authority has given the authority reason to audit their books and operations. An investigation began earlier in August into a matter not yet named. In the meantime, the Executive Director remains on leave with pay.

 

This is WQRM Regional News for Tuesday, August 23, 2005

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…a 17 year old Galeton resident was the operator of a vehicle being operated along Bloss Hollow Road in Abbott Township yesterday afternoon, shortly before 3:00pm. Coudersport based state police tell WQRM the juvenile was traveling west when he lost control of the vehicle, sending it off the right side of the roadway and into a guiderail. A juvenile passenger, not wearing his seatbelt, was taken by his parents to Charles Cole for treatment. The driver escaped unharmed.

A hit and run yesterday between 8:15am and 5:50pm was reported by James Devlin of Coudersport. Devlin told Coudersport PSP someone struck his vehicle while it was parked in the East lot of Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact troopers.

A drug related arrest yesterday in Ridgway Township was conducted by Ridgway troopers along Route 219. At approximately Noon Centerburg resident Billy Urban was stopped for a traffic violation at which time PSP found the individual to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and related paraphernalia. Charges were filed.

Criminal mischief was reported by Ridgway based state police after an incident occurred between Sunday and Monday of this week. An incident on the Dagus Mines Road in Fox Township was investigated after someone cracked a windshield on a van owned by Ronald Luchini of Kersey. Estimated damage is $300.00.

Anyone with information regarding another incident of criminal mischief between the 12th and this past Sunday remains under investigation by Ridgway based PSP. They tell WQRM Richard Stine of Johnsonburg told troopers that someone broke a window at his Beaver Drive camp in Ridgway Township. A door on his garage was also damaged. Those with information are asked to contact troopers at 776-6136.

Theft by unlawful taking between Thursday and Friday of last week was investigated by Ridgway troopers after an unknown person arrived at the Weis residence at the intersection of Route 555 and Summerson Road in Benezette Township. Once on the scene those involved entered the victim’s cow pasture and killed a cow, removing the beef loins and one hind quarter.

Mark Hand of Mills was the victim of a theft which occurred between August 20th of last year and this past Saturday. The victim told Coudersport troopers that someone removed a LCD Quartz Dukes of Hazard watch and a dollar bill folded to resemble a ring on a person’s finger from his property along Route 49 in Bingham Township. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers in Coudersport.

An arrest for the fires set recently in Elk County was made Sunday. Reports state that 3 persons have been charged in connection with the incidences involving burglary and arson. 27 year old James Nelson Deutsch of Freedom, Michael Paul Deutsch of Rochester and 33 year old St. Marys resident Jerry Shrubb were taken into custody by Ridgway based state police. All three were arraigned and sent to the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. No injuries were reported in the fires.

In the latest landfill news…the takeover by Rustic LLC is expected to take place next week. Documents are set to be signed in the state capitol Monday, with a transfer of funds to the SWA set for Tuesday.

The US Department of Agriculture tells WQRM they have exhausted their supply of anterless deer coupons. Those receiving coupons should get them in the mail by September 9th.

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…various accidents throughout the listening area were investigated by troopers in our listening area over the past weekend. But first, Kane based state police tell us they responded to an accident Thursday along Route 59 just after 11:00pm. Robert Dixon, 49, of Smethport was attempting to back up a trailer into a private drive. Blocking both lanes of travel, the Dixon Chevrolet Truck was impacted by a 2000 Chevrolet Truck driven by Vincent Bock, 42, of Wellsville. Bock told troopers he did not see the dark Dixon vehicle as it was dark in color. Both operators were wearing seatbelts and only Bock received minor injuries.

Kane based state police tell us an accident Saturday morning in Smethport was responded to by their barracks shortly after 10:00am. The accident occurred as Lisa Marie Bliss, 45, of Wellsville attempted to cross Route 6 from the Route 46/Route 6 intersection and enter Water Street. The Bliss vehicle struck one driven by Corry Blouvet, 45, of Allentown, NY. Bliss and a passenger in the Bliss vehicle, Smethport resident Gloria Calhoun along with Blouvet all received injuries. The three individuals were taken to BRMC for treatment. Charges are pending.

Anthony Beard, 29, of Eldred was driving along Route 446 in Eldred Township when he swerved to miss a deer in the roadway. Doing so resulted in his vehicle crossing the center line and striking the guiderail before proceeding to roll over and hit a utility pole. Beard was wearing a seatbelt and received no injuries.

DUI Saturday morning left charges pending against Sean Mulcahey, 20, of Port Allegany after Kane troopers responded to an accident along Route 6, 2.8 miles west of Port Allegany. Troopers tell WQRM Mulcahey was driving a 2001 Mazda Sedan eastbound when he lost control of the car of the wet roadway, sending the vehicle into the ditch. The vehicle spun counter-clock-wise in the ditch before rolling over and coming to rest upside down and partially in the west berm. Mulcahey escaped with only minor injuries.

DUI in Elk County on Saturday left 61 year old Patrick Eckenrode of Mineral Point in trouble with Ridgway troopers. Ridgway based state police state that Eckenrode was operating a 93 Chevrolet Blazer when he pulled onto the barracks parking lot on Boot Jack Road. Driving off the pavement, Eckenrode drove off the pavement and into the yard, where he parked the vehicle. It was determined that he was DUI, before being arrested and taken to Elk Regional for a BAC test. The investigation continues. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact troopers at 776-6136.

And an accident involving Eric Shilling, 26, of Ridgway was investigated by Ridgway based state police on Sunday. Troopers tell WQRM Shilling was traveling east on Route 120 when he lost control of his 99 Chevrolet Camero while negotiating a right curve. His car struck a mailbox post and concrete culvert before coming to rest in a private driveway. Shilling was transported to Elk Regional for a BAC Test and charges are pending.

Theft of firearms between August of last year and this past Thursday remains under investigation by Coudersport based state police. A release from the barracks states that Francis Button, 54, of Austin told troopers that someone removed 4 guns of various makes and calibers from his residence. Anyone with information is based to contact troopers at 274-8690.

Criminal mischief between last Tuesday and Friday left lug nuts on a vehicle owned by Tammy Warnick of Smethport loose. Damaged was estimated at $75.00. This incident remains under investigation by troopers who are asking for anyone with information to call the barracks at 778-5555.

A Coudersport man remains missing after a week. Reports state that 30 year old Patrick Ryan was last seen August 13th. Clarion Borough police are asking for your help in locating Ryan, a recent Clarion University grad who was last known to be making plans to visit his girlfriend in New Jersey on the 15th. He never arrived and no contact has been made with family or friends. Ryan is described as being 5’10" tall, about 150 pounds, with light brown hair and hazel eyes. A reward is being offered and anyone with information into the whereabouts of Ryan is asked to contact Clarion County police.

A meeting of the 2005 Mount Jewett Swedish Festival will take place today at 7:00pm at the Mount Jewett Library.

A rabies clinic sponsored by Dr. Ronnie Schenkein of the Coudersport Animal Health Center will be held Saturday at the Roulette Fire Hall, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. All dogs and cats at least 12 weeks of age can be vaccinated.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…an accident at 5:21pm yesterday was responded to by Kane troopers, who tell us 3 vehicle accident occurred along Route 6 at Wolf Road in Hamlin Township. Tony Cox, 31, of Cyclone was traveling east in a 93 Dodge Dakota when Cox failed to observe unit 2, a stopped 93 Chevrolet Tracker operated by Darrell Kribbs, 54, of Kane. Attempting to swerve onto the south berm, the front end of the Cox vehicle impacted the rear of the Kribbs vehicle, pushing the Kribbs vehicle into the westbound lane and into the rear of a 96 Jeep Cherokee driven by Adi Rapport of Carrboro, NC. The Rapport vehicle continued east on Route 6. Cox attempted to flee, but was later apprehended. Charges are pending against Cox. Injury was received by Kribbs, while the other operators involved escaped unharmed, as did their passengers.

Harassment yesterday on the East Valley Road in Smethport was responded to by Kane troopers around 6:00pm. Joel Johnson, 45, of Smethport was annoyed and feared for his safety when confronted by David Kessler, 46, also a Smethport resident. Charges were field against the accused.

Criminal mischief yesterday at the Wal-Mart in St. Marys left a 2002 Oldsmobile owned by Kenneth Anderson with damage to the gas cap cover after someone opened their car door into the right side of the Anderson vehicle between 8:00 and 8:30pm.

Harassment yesterday afternoon in Liberty Township was responded to by Kane troopers around 1:30pm. They tell WQRM a known male caused the victim, 59 year old Betty Mitchell of Port Allegany to fall. The suspect then attempted to catch Mitchell as she was falling. Charges are pending.

The ice cream store on West 4th Street in Emporium was burglarized between 1:00pm Wednesday and 6:00am yesterday. According to Emporium troopers who investigated, someone entered the store through the back door. Once inside, those involved removed $133.65 before fleeing. Damaged to the point of entry was estimated at $400.00.

Criminal mischief between Tuesday and Wednesday was reported by 4 Emporium residents. Troopers there tell us 3 Moore Hill Road residents and a Grimms Road resident had their mailboxes damaged by an unknown person using an unknown object.

Theft from a vehicle between Monday and Tuesday was investigated by Emporium based state police after someone entered several ATA buses, removing money from the fare boxes. Damages are pegged at $1,2000.00 to the boxes.

And Theft between Tuesday of last week and this past Monday left Emporium’s Jean Lou Pugh without a cell phone after someone stole it from an unknown location. No further details are available.

Hospitals in the area continue to be affected by the lack of blood donors. The Community Blood Bank of Northwest PA tells us that levels are about 350 units below what they should be. To donate, you can stop by the Community Blood Bank in Bradford. The CBB is located at 24 Davis Street and is open from 3:30pm to 7:30pm Thursdays and from 9:00am to 1:00pm on Saturdays. No appointment is needed.

Orientation for seventh graders at Port Allegany High School will take place Monday, from 8:30am to 10:30am. A parent orientation for those with kids entering the 7th grade will take place Monday at 7:00pm.

The Smethport Chamber will meet Monday at the Visitor’s Center at 5:00pm. Discussed will be the Victorian Weekend, to be held September 23rd through the 25th.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…David Quirk, 36, of Dubois was traveling Route 46 in Foster Township yesterday, just after noon. Two miles north of the village of Rew, Quirk had swerved to miss a deer when his 94 ford Escort hit the guiderail. Quirk was wearing his seatbelt and received no injuries.

Criminal attempt last evening in Byrnedale remains under investigation by Ridgway troopers. PSP from Dubois and Clearfield assisted in the investigation where 3 persons entered Friday’s Gas Station at the intersection of Route 255 and Cleveland Street. Donald Pentland, 27, of Glen Richey reportedly grabbed the 15 year old male cashier at the store, demanding cash. The cashier refused to assisted the actors involved. At that time, those involved in the attempted robbery fled in what is described as a dark colored Pontiac Sunfire.

Theft by unlawful taking between Tuesday and Wednesday of this week remains under investigation by troopers in Coudersport after someone stole a crank handle from a camper owned by Theodore Nichols of Emporium while the camper trailer was parked in Roulette. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers in Coudersport.

Another theft is being investigated by Kane PSP. Troopers there tell WQRM someone arrived at the Trail Head and Kinzua Valley Trail in Lafayette Township on Tuesday. Once on the scene, those involved loaded a large amount of gravel owned by Lafayatte Township into a trailer. The actor or actors then fled undetected. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact troopers at 778-5555.

A collision Tuesday afternoon on the Genesee Mills Road in Harrison Township was responded to by Coudersport based state police around 2:45pm. Troopers state that Richard VanEtten, 50, of Ulysses was traveling east on Wind Fall Road when his farm tractor slipped gears, causing the operator to lose control before the unit struck a stop sign and then a ditch. After striking the ditch, the tractor rolled onto the driver’s side. VanEtten sustained no injuries in the accident.

Eddie Graham of Port Allegany told Kane troopers recently that some time on Tuesday someone hit his Ford Escort Station Wagon passenger side mirror with a rice ball, causing about $40.00 in damage. Anyone with information about this act is asked to contact Kane PSP.

Theft from the Mary Williams home in Driftwood on Monday remains under investigation by Emporium based state police, who tell WQRM a known juvenile removed several items from the home.

Roulette Skate Park will be given a $40,000 grant from DCNR for use in Roulette’s skate park. The committee overseeing the park is currently $11,5000 short of their goal of $20,000 to match that given by DCNR. For more information, contact Beth or Don Sigafoes.

Smethport Borough Council lost a member effective Tuesday. Leonard Anderson wrote in a letter to the local daily that he can no longer associate himself with those who continuously go back on their word. Anderson’s seat was up for grabs by years end.

The University of Pittsburgh’s Bradford Campus will resume normal hours effective Monday. Hours will be 8:30am to 5:00pm. The fall semester officially begins the 29th.

Senator Joe Scarnati will hold constituent hours in Lewis Run on today from 10:00am to 11:00am.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…we’re told by troopers in the WQRM listening area, that all was quiet overnight and yesterday. There were no related incidences to report either.

Ridgway based state police have been kept busy over the past week. An assault yesterday by a known victim toward Nichole Koons of Kersey was investigated by troopers in Ridgway. Charges are pending against the accused after an incident along Squab Hollow Road in Fox Township where Koons was reportedly hit by the accused, using the front door.

Disorderly conduct yesterday in Jay township was responded to by troopers in Ridgway. George Gornati, 46, of Kersey was charged with disorderly conduct after he reportedly yelled profanities and created a disturbance outside his estranged wife’s home in Byrndale.

Harassment by communication between Friday of last week and yesterday remains under investigation by Ridgway based state police. They tell WQRM two known juveniles called the Daniel Ritter residence approximately 25 times for no legitimate reason.

Burglary at Milcreek Enterprises in Ulysses between Monday and Tuesday is still under investigation according to our checks with state police in Coudersport. Someone stole 3-18 inch chainsaws from the business after forceably entering a storage closet and cabinet on the property. Value of the chainsaws is $350.00, according to troopers who are continuing their investigation.

Theft Monday in Shinglehouse is still under investigation by Coudersport troopers. Gerald Lamb told troopers that 2 scooters were taken from his Manley Avenue residence by a suspected 13 year old juvenile. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers at 274-8690.

Criminal mischief at the Benjamin Meyer residence on Monday is being investigated by Ridgway based state police. The incident allegedly occurred around 10:30pm when someone threw 2 rocks through two different windows at the Meyer residence on Scotland Street in Dagus Mines. Those with information about this incident are asked to contact Ridgway PSP at 776-6136 or Elk County Crimestoppers at 800-775-2030.

An incident sometime between Friday and Monday in Fox Township remains under investigation by Ridgway PSP who tell WQRM someone scratched a vehicle owened by Irvin Wonderly as it was parked along Route 948 at the victim’s Kemmer Road residence. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ridgway troopers or Elk County Crimestoppers.

And criminal mischief at the Shawn Mahoney residence in Kersey is still under investigation by Ridgway based state police. Troopers there tell us someone struck the victim’s mailbox with a bat before fleeing the scene. Those with information about this crime are asked to contact state police in Ridgway.

An incident involving the Bradford Housing Authority gave the 5 member board reason to dismiss Director Shelley Whitman with pay. Whitman and her attorney, Jerry Robinson are looking into the possibility that her civil rights as an employee have been violated.

And aWeedville man was sentenced to a maximum of 10 years behind bars, in connection with an incident in November of 2004. Reports state that Francis Vincent Pumphrey shot Tazona Stockley twice November 21st after learning that Stockley had been having a relationship with Pumphrey’s wife, Cathy. Pumphrey plead guilty in early June to 2 counts of reckless endangerment, in addition to criminal attempt to commit voluntary manslaughter and aggravated assault.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…an accident yesterday afternoon along Route 49 at the Route 44 intersection in Eulalia Township was responded to by Coudersport based state police. They tell us Lillian rice, 66, of Derry, PA was traveling south when she failed to stop at a posted stop sign. Making a right turn onto Route 49 resulted in Rice’s vehicle colliding with a 2006 Peterbuilt tractor driven by Keath Smith of Smethport. The Rice Dodge Caravan then struck an embankment and overturned. A citation for failure to stop at a posted sign was issued.

Terroristic threats yesterday in Ridgway was investigated by troopers there. Ridgway based state police tell us that around 3:55pm Timothy Kamats, 38, of Ridgway was taken into custody for public drunkenness. At this time Kamats made threats toward the arresting officer. One charge of terroristic threats and one count of public drunkenness was filed against the accused.

Trespassing between July 16th and Sunday of this week was investigated by Ridgway troopers. We’re told property owned by Ralph Bonini of Youngsville was entered by someone. No further details are available.

And disorderly conduct on the 12th in Roulette left Orry Murray of Roulette charged with the same after an incident on Main Street.

Approval for a subdivision owned by Bill Burleson of Port Allegany was given by Port Allegany Borough council during their Monday evening meeting. Burleson has been at odds with council over the project for some time now, submitting various plans only to have them denied by council. The okay was given to Burleson’s plan for a 30 by 80 foot retail structure on the northwest corner of the property he owns at Main and Benton in the borough. It’s been reported that one of the first tenants to occupy the new structure would be a Subway franchise.

PennDOT has announced that curb work in the City of Bradford is scheduled to begin today. Work should be completed by Thursday.

And Smethport Chamber of Commerce will meet tomorrow at 8:00am at the Visitor’s Center.

 

This is WQRM Regional News for Monday, August 15, 2005

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…accidents over the past weekend kept 3 state police barracks busy, according to our checks.

Kane based state police tell us Reuben Stuckey, 23, of Lewis Run was traveling south on Route 446 in Corryville on Sunday when his 93 Ford truck left the roadway while rounding a curve. The truck then impacted a guiderail and went airborne before overturning. Stuckey was ejected and subsequently taken to Haot Medical Enter in Erie. A passenger, 25 year old Edward Hull of Smethport was taken to Bradford Regional with unnamed injuries. The investigation continues.

A fatal accident near the Bradford Airport on Saturday remains under investigation by Kane troopers, who tell WQRM Gregory Smith, 55, of Rew died as a result of serious injuries sustained in the accident along Route 59 at 9:00pm. Smith was traveling east on Route 59 in a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker when the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle then entered a ditch where it continued before striking a cement culvert. The vehicle then rolled at which time Smith was ejected.

A crash at the intersection of Trout Brook Road and Route 6 in Roulette Township was responded to by Coudersport troopers on Saturday. According to our checks with troopers, a 2 vehicle accident occurred around 3:25pm when April Blimline, 22, of Laurel, MA was traveling east on Route 6 and making an attempt to turn into Trout Brook Road. At the same time, Joelene Kelly, 58 of Roulette was westbound in an 88 Chevrolet Corsica. The Kelly vehicle struck the Blimline vehicle at this time. Both operators and a passenger in the Blimline vehicle were taken to Charles Cole for treatment.

A 1-vehicle accident Friday involving Jill Speer of Brookville occurred at 1:00pm according to Ridgway troopers. Speer was operating a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe along Route 255, attempting to back onto the roadway. At that time, Speer crossed into the northbound lane and aprtially into the southbound lane. Overcorrecting the situation, Speer lost control of the vehicle before it entered the east berm and rolled onto its roof. Speer escaped unharmed while her vehicle sustained moderate damage.

Kane based state police tell WQRM Bobby Smith, 38, of Mt. Jewett was traveling north on Route 646, north of Cyclone on Friday. At about 7:40am, Smith became distracted. At the same time a vehicle had slowed in the roadway. Swerving to miss the other vehicle, Smith lost control of the 1990 Buick being operated. The car then left the roadway and rolled onto its roof. Smith escaped with no injuries.

Criminal mischief yesterday morning was investigated by troopers from the Ridgway barracks. They tell us Michael Johnson, 27, of Ridgway told troopers that a known actor damaged the victim’s front door at a cost of $150.00. Charges were filed.

Harassment Friday along the Bennett’s Valley Highway in Jay Township left a known actor charged in connection with assaulting Raven O’Connor, 20, of Johnsonburg.

Harassment Saturday in Potter County left Chris Pistner, 37, of Kersey charged after he, according to Coudersport troopers, made unwanted physical contact with Dennis Fredrick of Austin. The altercation was apparently over a right-of-way dispute.

Disorderly conduct at the Elk County Fairgrounds on Friday left a 14 year old individual in trouble with Ridgway troopers. The 14 Kersey resident wrote obscenities on a vehicle owned by a 17-year-old Kersey resident. A disorderly conduct citation was filed against the accused.

Lighting on Saturday on the Elk County area struck at least 6 person while they attend the Elk County Fair in Kersey. The exact number, according to April Cush, fair president, is unknown at this time.

A decision to strike by the Kane Area Education Association could come as early as next week. A work stoppage recommendation by union president Mike Szymanski could come for the approximately 100 teachers at that time.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…all barracks in the WQRM listening area report that all was quiet on area streets and highways overnight and yesterday. There were no related incidences to report either.

Criminal mischief between Wednesday night and Thursday morning remains under investigation by Kane troopers after someone threw paint on a car owned by Corey Chase of Eldred. Paint was also thrown into the victim’s pool, in addition to obscene words being written in paint on Chase’s fence. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Kane barracks.

Harassment charges are being filed against 34 year old Paul Solomon of Ridgway, according to PSP there. Solomon entered the residence of Angela Solomon, demanding that she allow him to take their children. After an argument began, the accused grabbed the children and took a bottle of prescription medication. Angela Solomon was pushed to the kitchen floor while attempting to stop the accused from leaving.

A camp off Rich Valley road in Shippen Township was illegally entered between July 30th and August 3rd according to our checks with state police in Emporium. The camp, owned by Theodore Rogers of Emporium, was entered through a porch window, which was damaged during the crime.

A 1 vehicle crash Saturday was responded to by Emporium based state police. According to the report given, Ronald Moore, 33, of Roland, IA was traveling south on Mason Hill road in Gibson Township when he attempted to pass a vehicle stopped in the roadway. Steering too far to the left, Moore’s 2003 Mitsubishi Montero rolled over the embankment, coming to rest on its roof. Moore was wearing his seatbelt and received no injuries. A passenger in the Moore vehicle, Anthony Sturnick, a Greensburg resident, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Steven Kester, also a Greensburg resident riding in the same vehicle, received only minor injuries.

Theft from property owned by Driftwood resident Joseph McKimm was investigated by Emporium troopers recently. McKimm told troopers that sometime between July 24th and August 6th someone took a red craftsman electric welder, cutting torches and a homemade cart.

Reckless endangerment was investigated by Emporium PSP who tell WQRM Johnna Young of Greensburg was struck by a 22 caliber bullet from another camp on the 6th. No further details are available.

And criminal mischief between July 20th and August 5th was investigated by troopers from Emporium after someone damaged a tractor and vehicle owned by John Carey Jr of Sinnemahoning.

Olean resident Tyrone Malone, accused in the shooting death of Kurtis Billingslea Jr in July has had his bail reduced to $25,000 cash. Yet, the suspect remains locked up in the Cattaraugus County jail. Motions in this case are due October 24th.

A representative of the Governors Veterans Outreach and Assistance Center will be available to meet with veterans at the Bradford Careerlink on Davis Street Wednesday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Arrangements can also be made for those who are homebound.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…an accident yesterday morning along Route 219 in Lafayette Township was responded to by Kane troopers. Once on the scene they found that Bradford resident Richard Herbstritt, 19, had traveled along Route 219 in a southerly direction before falling asleep at the wheel. The Ford Ranger he was operating traveled off the roadway and hit a tree. Herbtritt received no injuries.

Burglary between Tuesday and Wednesday of this week remains under investigation by Kane troopers, who tell WQRM Striker’s Alley in Smethport was forcibly entered through the men’s restroom. Once inside those involved removed numerous alcoholic beverages. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers at 778-5555.

Burglary at a Pine Grove Road camp in Port Allegany was responded to by Kane troopers recently. Troopers tell us someone arrived at the camp owned by Barbara Spencer and entered the structure through an unlocked window. No items were reported as missing. This investigation continues by troopers who ask you to phone them at 778-5555 if you have any information.

Criminal mischief at the Willow Bay boat launch on Monday is being investigated by Kane PSP. The crime occurred as someone entered the Willow Bay Campground between 11:00pm and midnight. Those involved preceded to break windows in several vehicles before departing.

And harassment yesterday in Eldred Township left Ronald Appleby charged with one count of harassment for striking his wife, Neola Appleby.

Ridgway residents can expect a rise in cable rates beginning In October. Adelphia has raised their expanded basic service. Ridgway Borough council will meet again August 15th to make a decision on signing an agreement with Adelphia to extend the franchise agreement.

Senator Joe Scarnati will hold hours for his constituents tomorrow at the Bradford Chamber office from 11:00am to Noon. He’ll also be in Kane from 12:30 to 1:30. For more information phone his office in Warren.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…an accident yesterday morning along Route 120 was responded to by Ridgway based state police. They tell us a 2004 Dodge Ram driven by Dustin Marshall, 27, of Ridgway was traveling west. A 2003 Ford van was being operated in the eastbound lane by Raub Norlin, 32, of Johnsonburg. The Marshall vehicle crossed the center line and into the path of the Raub vehicle before impacting the guiderail on the south side of Route 120. Marshal was taken to Elk Regional for a BAC test. Charges will be filed.

Falsly reporting a stolen vehicle to authorities has left a husband and wife in trouble with Coudersport based state police. Matthew Kio and Holly Kio of Harrison Valley told troopers someone stole their vehicle, when they had actually given the vehicle to a friend who was involved in a crash in New York state. Charges were filed.

Criminal mischief between Friday and Sunday west of Coudersport remains under investigation by troopers there. PSP from the Denton Hill barracks tell WQRM someone broke a plastic electric meter at Diamond Auto Glass. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers at 274-8690.

The US Postal Service has announced they will soon offer a new service for residential customers. Premium Forwarding Service will be offered to those wishing to receive all their mail to a temporary address, regardless of the distance. Those wishing to use the service cam be gone anywhere from 2 weeks to and including one year. Those interested in the service can obtain a form from their local post office. The mail is then collected and mailed once per week. A $10.00 enrollment fee is charged in addition to a charge of $10.00 per weekly shipment.

Approval was given to Jamestown Community College to expand, with an additional office in Allegany County. According to today’s Bradford Era, Bob Barber, Dean of Administration and continuing Education, says JCC was awaiting approval before moving forward with signing an agreement for the new location at the Industrial Development Agency’s Crossroads facility.

And Mount Jewett’s Swedish Festival gets underway Friday. Activities continue through Sunday in the borough.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…a one vehicle accident last evening in Jones Township was responded to by Ridgway based state police. Around 9:30pm, Kayla Stewart, 17, of Erie was traveling north on Route 948 when her 92 Ford Crown Victoria struck adder in the roadway. Stewart and her passenger, 17 year old Erie resident Jessica Mentley escaped unharmed.

Attempted suicide by a juvenile in Kane yesterday afternoon was assisted to by Kane troopers. They tell WQRM the female took several pills in an attempt to end her life. She was taken to Kane Community Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Aggravated assault yesterday afternoon in Horton Township left one male adult with head injuries and life flighted to Altoona Hospital. Ridgway based state police state that two adult males were involved in a verbal argument, when one was struck in the head.

Charges were filed against Ashley Gore and William Miller, both Rixford residents after the two became engaged in a fight over a child. The incident turned physical before officers from the Kane barracks arrived. No injuries were reported.

Theft between Saturday and Sunday in Mount Jewett was investigated by troopers there. They tell WQRM Louise Loveless had parked her unlocked car along Route 6, within the borough when someone entered the car and removed a birth certificate and social security card belonging to her son, in addition to her social security card and a checkbook keeper. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact troopers at 778-5555.

And criminal trespass on Saturday was investigated by troopers from Coudersport. They tell us Justin Smith, 26, of Olean entered the residence of Peggy Mclain around 7:15pm. He was asked to leave, at which time he refused.

During a Monday meeting of the McKean County Solid Waste Authority, members agreed to give Rustick LLC until the end of August to secure funding to purchase the landfill in Hutchins. During the closed-door session, SWA members and Rustick agreed that the SWA can keep the tipping fees from 500 tons of trash coming in from Ohio. It was also agreed that if the deal falls through, the SWA can still keep the incoming revenue.

Smethport School Board agreed during their Monday meeting to join other districts in Intermediate Unit’s 8, 9 and 10 with the intent to purchase telecommunication services. A huge savings is expected according to Smethport School District’s Superintendent George Romanowski. In other news, the board made several appointments during their most recent meeting.

Legislation proposed by Representative Martin Causer would take control of the EMS from the state’s Health Department and give it to a newly created Emergency Medical Services Agency. House Bill 1282 would come before the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Subcommittee on Security and Emergency Response Readiness in a hearing to be held at the Pennstater in State College on August 18th at 8:45am. The bill was introduced by Causer in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Ambulance Association.

And Port Allegany’s 21st Annual Town-wide Yard Sales will be held this Saturday and Sunday. Sales begin both days at 9:00am.

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…2 incidences of DUI were reported by Coudersport based state police on Saturday. In the first case, Carmen Lampman, 26, of Roulette was stopped after committing a traffic violation along Route 6, near Mina Road in Eulalia Township. Lampmen was arrested and charges are being filed.

In the other instance, William Smith, 53, of Galeton was traveling along Route 144 in West Branch township when troopers observed the accused committing a traffic violation. Smith was stopped at 11:14pm, when troopers found the accused to be DUI. Charges will be filed.

Criminal mischief between Saturday and Sunday was investigated by Coudersport troopers, who tell WQRM someone threw a small orange construction cone through a window in the Darlene King residence in Ulysses. No further details are available.

A burglary on Saturday in Roulette at the Scott Fessenden residence occurred between Noon and 5:00pm. Coudersport based state police responded to the scene to find someone had entered the residence and took the wallet containing various cards and cash.

Burglary on Friday along Fischer Road in Fox Township was responded to by Ridgway based PSP. Some time between 1:00pm and 6:30pm someone kicked the front door of the Rodger Frederick camp. Once inside, a locked bedroom door was also forced open. Nothing was reportedly taken.

Ridgway based state police continue their investigation into an incident of indecent exposure after an incident which has reportedly occurred over the past 3 years in Ridgway Township.

Criminal mischief Friday in Kersey, Elk County remains under investigation by Ridgway troopers who tell WQRM someone shot out the passenger window of a vehicle owned by Timothy Butterfuss. And the passenger side mirror on a vehicle owned by Jennifer Erich was broken. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers.

Theft from the Sherri Haskins residence between the 2nd and the 3rd of this month remains under investigation. Coudersport based state police are investigating the incident which resulted in a bicycle being removed from the residence. Those with information about this theft are asked to contact troopers in Coudersport.

An incident of harassment occurred between the 3rd and yesterday in Kersey. According to Ridgway troopers, an estranged husband contacted his wife in an attempt to locate her.

Wal-Mart in Fox Township was the scene of an incident of disorderly conduct Saturday. Ridgway based state police responded to find 2 known males had committed an act which had no purpose.

And criminal trespass charged were filed against 22 year old Lawrence Bigliotte Jr of St. Marys after he was reportedly told by management that he was no longer permitted to enter Wal-Mart owned property.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…an accident along Route 255, south of the Old Kersey Road in Fox Township, Elk County left 50 year old Ronald Titchner dead after he reportedly lost control of his 93 Toyota Deluxe Truck. Ridgway based state police state that Titchner was exiting Route 255 along the east berm when his truck rolled several times before coming to rest against a tree. Titchner was thrown from his truck during the accident, according to troopers who responded.

DUI in Roulette this morning at 2:26 left 47 year old Roy Smith of Port Allegany stopped by Coudersport troopers. Smith was initially stopped for a speeding violation. No details are available as to what happened after the stop was initiated.

Criminal mischief yesterday in Lewis Run remains under investigation. Kane based state police tell us Louis Ruzzo spoke with 3 juveniles about riding a 4 wheeler on his property. He told troopers that the next day he found that his home had been egged. He believes that the juveniles he spoke with may be involved. The investigation continues.

A vehicle fire Wednesday in Shippen Township was responded to by Emporium based state police and Emporium Volunteer Fire Department around 7:20am. Troopers tell us the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Michael Merritt was eastbound on East hicks Run Road when it reportedly caught fire. Merritt was able to pull off on a logging road and exit the vehicle before it became fully involved. No injuries were reported.

Retail theft Wednesday in Pike Township left a known actor charged in the crime which occurred at the West Pike Motor inn in Potter County. Coudersport based state police tell us the individual pumped $24.50 in gas before leaving the scene. No charges were field as the person involved returned to pay for the purchase.

Criminal mischief between Monday and Tuesday left the windshield of an 85 GMC Truck owned by Dennis Weber damaged. Further details are not available at this time.

And drug possession on Monday in Portage Township, Cameron County remains under investigation after troopers from the Emporium barracks responded to a domestic dispute and saw a marijuana pant.

Tyrone Malone, 29, of Olean, has been indicted in connection with the stabbing death of Kurtis Billingslea Jr July 13th near the Catholic Charities building. Charged with one count of second degree murder, Malone sits in the Cattaraugus County jail in Little Valley.

Emporium resident 21 year old William Carter jumped into the Driftwood branch of the Sinnamahoning Creek last Thursday. Emporium based state police say that Carter was to be charged with resisting arrest after officers attempted to arrest him for a probation violation. Carter was eventually taken from the scene by ambulance.

And EMT classes are set to be held in Eldred at the Borough Fire Department beginning August 25th from 6:00 to 10:00pm. The class will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information, contact Sharon Crowley.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…Joshua Lindemuth, 23, of Kane was traveling west in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am when he fell asleep at the wheel. Kane troopers tell us the operator awoke as the car was traveling onto the north berm. Lindemuth was unable to bring the vehicle under control before it started spinning clockwise and traveling into the eastbound lane, then across the westbound lane and finally off the north berm. The car then went over an 8 foot embankment where it struck soil. Lindemith refused treatment.

Terroristic threats by Michael Majot, 44, of Austin against his 45 year old wife, Kelly sent the accused to the Potter County jail with bail set at $80,000. Coudersport based state police tell WQRM the incident occurred Tuesday in Homer Township.

Vandalism at the Maxwell Run Cemetery between July 30th and July 31st remains under investigation by Ridgway troopers, who tell us someone pushed over 16 headstones, 5 of which were either broken or damaged. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident should contact Ridgway troopers.

We’re told 2 other headstones at the Maxwell Run Cemetery were also tipped over between July 22nd and the 29th. Again, anyone with information is asked to contact Ridgway troopers.

And theft between July 13th and the 27th in Horton Township at the Brockway Water Authority property remains under investigation after someone cut down several trees. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ridgway based PSP.

Austin will be featured during a segment on WWCP-TV as the station airs a segment on the Austin flood of 1911. The segment will air tonight during the 10:00pm news.

And the Smethport Chamber Events Committee will meet today at 5:30pm at the Visitor’s Center. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…a 1 vehicle accident yesterday morning occurred along Route 349 at 7:19am, according to Kane based state p0olice who responded. Jeanne Snyder, 60, of Duke Center was traveling westbound when she lost control of the 2002 Ford Taurus she was operating. The accident occurred as a result of Snyder bending over to pick up a pair of sunglasses. The car veered off Route 346, hitting a utility pole, leaving the Snyder vehicle with moderate damage. Snyder was wearing her seatbelt and received no injuries.

Ridgway based state police responded to the Martin residence along Route 219 in Horton Township on Monday. Troopers tell WQRM that Michael Martin and his 14 year old son were involved in a verbal argument when the son went to the kitchen to retrieve a butcher knife. When the son returned he threatened to cut his father, at which time the father went to a neighbor’s home to call police. The 14 year old juvenile was arrested for aggravated assault and sent to the juvenile detention facility, pending court proceedings.

And William Puncheon of DuBois told Ridgway based state police that someone damaged his 2002 Nissan Frontier while it was parked in a field in Fox Township. The person or persons involved reportedly smashed out the passenger window. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Ridgway based state police.

Affecting 97 workers, Kane Magnetics, Kane Borough’s oldest employer, made the announcement that they will be partially closing. The worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1998 requires companies to announce such layoffs 60 days in advance. Everyone from Representatives Martin Causer and Kathy Rapp to the County Commissioners has voiced concern over the mass layoff.

In other closure news, Texas based Dal-Tile in Olean may also feel the same effects if the Olean Plant shuts down. One of 3 plants owned by Mohawk Industries, Inc. out of Georgia, the Olean plant could lay off 280 employees, as the company considers closing one of the 3 US plants. Other locations include Gettysburg, PA and Jackson, MS.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…all was quiet according to our checks with state police in the WQRM listening area. There were no related incidences to report either.

Coudersport based state police tell us loitering and prowling during the early morning hours of yesterday remains under investigation by their barracks. A juvenile, living along Route 6 West told troopers that he heard someone on the roof. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers.

Harassment yesterday in Elk County remains under investigation by Ridgway PSP. Maria Spinda, 16, of Kersey told troopers an unknown person made several harassing phone calls to her shortly after 11:00pm. The investigation continues.

An ATV collision yesterday afternoon along Predmore Road in Summit Township left 2 15 year old males with minor injuries. Coudersport based state police tell us the operator was traversing down a hill, when he failed to negotiate a left curve on a trail. The ATV traveled onto an embankment before it rolled, throwing both the driver and passenger. Both juveniles were treated at Charles Cole and released.

Simple assault last evening in Homer Township remains under investigation by Coudersport based state police. Trooper there tell WQRM a domestic incident between Michael Majot and Kelly Majot, both Austin residents, resulted in Michael Majot pushing Kelly Majot out of his pickup and onto the roadway. Minor injuries were received by the victim, while the actor fled on foot. Charges are pending.

Disorderly conduct Sunday in Kane Borough left a known 17 year old male being released to his mother after troopers attempted to released the said individual. He was subsequently arrest for disorderly conduct. Charges were filed.

The jointer between Cameron, Elk and McKean Counties will end effective October 1st. This after a meting was held with each county and the Secretary of the Department of Public Welfare, Estelle Richman.

With many months behind them, embattled in issues over the overflow of the Port Allegany sewer system, Port Allegany has made some headway with the state DEP. The first payment on a fine of $425,000 was made last month at a value of $10,000. In the meantime, work continues on correcting overflow problems during heavy rains and other related times.

Otto-Eldred School board gave the okay to the French class during their recent meeting for a trip to France in the fall.

Representative Martin Casuer will present the Century Farm Award to Ilene and Karl Altenhein tomorrow at 2:00pm at the Potter County Fairgrounds in Millport. The award is given to those who show they are committed to Pennsylvania’s economic and agricultural heritage.

Representative Martin Causer or one of his representatives will hold constituent hours Thursday at the Emporium Borough office, from 9:00am to 10:00am, at the Port Allegany Borough office from 10:30 to 11:30 and from 12:30 to 1:30 at the Eldred Borough office.

And a Hawaiian party will be held at the Port Allegany Community Pool Sunday from 7:30 to 10:30. The event is sponsored by the Recreational Authority. There is a cost for the event.

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…a collision Saturday in Corydon Township was responded to by Kane based state police shortly after midnight. Troopers tell WQRM Carl Gawlinski, 61, of Union City was traveling west along Route 59 in a 2002 Chevrolet Truck when the truck left the roadway and struck a wooden fence. After impact, the truck came to final rest 15 feet from the roadway. Gawlinski escaped unharmed.

DUI Saturday will result in Lisa Soule, 28, of Ulysses being charged with the same after Coudersport based state police stopped the driver in Ulysses Township Saturday morning.

Criminal mischief yesterday remains under investigation by Ridgway troopers, who tell us someone arrived at a dwelling owned by Charles Alsbaugh, 31, of Ridgway. Once on the scene, someone damaged a screen door with a blunt object. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Ridgway based state police at 776-6136.

Public drunkenness yesterday left 26 year old Emporium resident Christopher Grovanz with charges pending after Grovanz was seen by troopers walking along Route 255 shortly after 4:00am. Troopers state that the accused was visibly intoxicated.

An attempt was made to take a $1,000.00 veneer cherry tree from Route 59. The tree, cut into 2 sections by those involved, was owned by Forest Investment Associates of Smethport. Anyone with information about this attempted theft is asked to contact Kane PSP at 778-5555.

And anyone with information pertaining to the damage of a parking sign at the Potter County Human Services offices in Roulette is asked to contact troopers in Coudersport. Troopers there state that someone damaged a wooden barricade and 2 "No Parking" signs.

A new business will join the St. Marys business district after some time of rumors spreading throughout the area. Sheetz will be situated between Brussells and Depot streets, with an opening date set for the fall of 2006. After some demolition in the area, it will reportedly take 16 weeks to build the store.
