On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…several accidents occurred over the past weekend, including on fatality.

Early yesterday morning Coudersport based state police responded to an accident on Horse Run Road, just east of Route 44 in Sharon Township. Around 5:30am Todd Burt, 33, of West Clarsville, NY was operating a a vehicle eastbound when he lost control. Burt was ejected through the fiberglass roof. Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbury pronounced Burt deceased, according to Coudersport PSP. According to reports, Burt was not wearing a seatbelt.

Kane based state police tell us Amy Kephart of Turtlepoint was traveling north on Route 155 when her 98 Ford Escort was forced off the roadway by an oncoming motorist. Kephart’s car then impacted an embankment. The operator was taken to BRMC in Bradford for treatment of her minor injuries.

DUI left an Austin resident in trouble with Coudersport troopers after Jeffery Burger was stopped Saturday afternoon on the Gardeau Road in Keating Township. Burger was traveling south when he left the roadway and struck a barrel and then a drainage ditch. His 89 Toyota Truck then traveled through a yard and struck an embankment, went airborne and landed on the roadway, traveling over an embankment. Burger was taken to Charles Cole for treatment.

A fatal fire yesterday morning at the Asel residence in Kane remains under investigation by Highland Township Fire Department and the State Police Fire Marshall. According to Kane troopers, fire broke out at the home owned by Roberta Smith of Dubois, claiming the life of 24 year old Robert Asel.

A Kane juvenile was found passed out Saturday evening on along Route 6 in Hamlin Township. Kane troopers tell WQRM the individual was found on a log in a highly intoxicated state. Charges are pending and the investigation continues.

Burglary in Clara Township, Potter County remains under investigation by Coudersport authorities. PSP there tell us a seasonal residence owned by Kirk Hoffman of York was illegally entered by someone Saturday. Entry was made by forcing open a door. Those having information about this incident should contact Coudersport troopers.

And a Kane business was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning. Reports state that the Papa Nicks building on Chase Street was also housing people. All were able to escape without injury. About 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, with crews on the scene until 6:00pm. The investigation continues.

And trick or treat hours will be held this evening from 6:00 to 7:30 by the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…all was reported quiet on area streets and highways according to our checks with state police in our listening area. There were no related incidences to report either.

Disorderly conduct occurred last evening in the parking lot of Diamond Auto Glass on Route 6 in Eulalia Township. Coudersport based state police state that Matthew McKnight, 27, of Connellsville was relieving himself on property owned by Diamond Auto Glass. Charges are pending.

And Kane based state police tell WQRM theft from a Hamilton Township business between the 21st and the 22nd occurred as someone took a compound bow owned by Paul Broceur, of West Boro, MA, as it was in the back of the victim’s vehicle at the Tippin Inn on Route 321. Those having information about this theft should contact Kane PSP.

A Smethport man continues to recover from an accidental self-inflicted gun shot wound just over a week ago. Brian Gustafson, according to reports, had a .22 caliber single shot gun in his jacket when the firearm discharged while Gustafson was bent over his fireplace. Smethport police state that the gun’s hammer struck the fireplace brick, discharging a bullet into Gustafson’s back after collapsing a lung. Gustafson was transported by Mercy Flight to Hamot Medical Center in Erie for treatment.

A New York woman was sentenced to up to 23 ½ months in jail for her part in forgery at Beacon Light in over 100 instances. According to reports, Julie Anne Ganoung, 42, of Olean committed nearly 100 instances of insurance fraud, 50 of forgery along with a count of theft by deception and one count of receiving stolen property. Judge John Yoder sentenced the accused to 15 days to 23 ½ months for each of the 147 counts. The accused is also to make no contact with her former employer.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday… An accident early this morning in Ridgway Township left a Ridgway resident cited for failure to drive at a safe speed. Joseph Amacher, 22, was turning onto School Drive when his 99 ford Sedan began to slide. The vehicle then slid across the eastbound lane of Route 219 before the undercarriage of the vehicle hit the curb. The sedan then continued south for 5 feet and stopped on a curb facing southeast.

A one vehicle crash on Route 948, 1.5 miles north of Ridgway Township was responded to by Ridgway troopers around 5:30pm. Gayle Mansfield of Emporium was traveling south in a 95 Chevrolet Beretta when she swerved to miss hitting several deer. She lost control of the car, sending it across the northbound lane and along a ditch for 150 feet. The car then struck a tree and came to rest. Mansfield sustained minor injury, according to troopers.

An autopsy is scheduled for today for an Eldred man, who, according to Kane troopers, died as the result of a gunshot wound yesterday morning. Troopers tell us Ivan Hakes was found around 7:00am at his residence in Eldred Township. The investigation continues.

Coudersport resident Robert Lamond Jr was arrested for violating a PFA order against Victoria Lamond of Roulette. According to Coudersport PSP, the accused phone the employer of the victim yesterday morning.

The investigation into harassment by communication continues by Ridgway troopers, who tell WQRM a known person phoned a know 22 year old Ridgway resident on Monday.

Austin is temporarily without a police presence after their lone police officer, Shawn Foringer was suspended for his involvement in the theft of marijuana from the police station earlier this month. Patrolling duties will be assumed by Coudersport based state police.

The Crosby Mini-mart in Lewis Run borough was the site of a reported theft on Friday. Kane based state police are investigating the incident which occurred around 2:15pm when someone pumped just over $10.00 in gas and then fled in what is described as blue truck.

And a Cyclone resident had a check removed from her checkbook and cashed without her permission recently. Kane based state police are investigating.

In court again, John Rigas and his son 49 year old Timothy both plead not guilty to charges associated with tax evasion. The former CEO reportedly failed to report income of $143 million while his son Timothy, Adelphia’s former CFO failed to report income of $239 million. This according to documents unsealed earlier this month. During proceedings yesterday, the defense was granted an extension until September of next year.

And Limestone has set trick or treat hours for Monday from 6:00 to 7:00pm, followed by a party at the Community Center.

On the traffic and accident scene over night and yesterday…a one vehicle accident yesterday morning just before 8:00am was responded to by Kane troopers. Brent Morgan, 23, of Sugargrove was operating a 2005 Ford F-350 on Route 59 when he lost control on the snow covered roadway. The truck spun clockwise off the south side of the roadway where it rolled once and came to rest. No injuries were reported.

Emporium troopers tell WQRM burglary at the home of Connie Andrews of Emporium occurred yesterday between 8:00am and 3:30pm. An undetermined amount of cash was removed from the home and the investigation continues.

A one vehicle crash around 4:00am yesterday was responded to by troopers from the Emporium barracks. Jerry Hubler, 63, of Sinnamahoning was operating a 92 dodge Truck on Wykoff Run road when he lost control on the snow covered roadway, which sent the truck across both lanes of traffic and into an embankment. The truck then came to rest after striking a culvert along the west berm. Hubler was taken to Elk Regional by private vehicle for his back pain. No charges are being filed.

Theft from a Rixford man’s property remains under investigation. Kane PSP tell us someone arrived at Terry Norton’s property on :Looker Mountain Trail, removing a large amount of wire and then fleeing. Those having information about this theft should contact Kane troopers.

A known victim in Shippen township, Cameron County has received e-mails from a known suspect between the 12th and Monday of this week. Troopers in Emporium continue their investigation.

Disorderly conduct by Chad Leigley, 34, of Weedville left the accused charged by Emporium troopers after an incident on Sunday in Driftwood. Emporium troopers tell us the accused was cited for engaging in threatening behavior around 10:30pm.

And attempted indecent assault between December 26th and the 28th of last year was investigated by Kane troopers. During the reported time, troopers tell WQRM Donald Peterson Jr. of Aiken attempted inappropriate behavior toward a juvenile at a residence in Lafayette Township.

A benefit for the sister parish of St. Bonaventure will be held Thursday from 4:00to 8:00pm at St. Bonaventure University’s Doyle Hall. Those attending can chose from a hand crafted by, made by local artisans, fill it with all-you-can-eat homemade soup. They then get to keep the bowl. There is a fee and tickets are available through the Bonaventure church and several other locations.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…an accident on Route 948 in Ridgway Township left the airbag of a vehicle operated by Lisa Gess of St. Marys deployed late last evening. Ridgway troopers responding tell WQRM Gess was southbound on 948 when a deer entered the roadway, striking the front end of the Gess 93 Mercury Sable. Gess was cited by troopers for driving while privileges were suspended.

Caution is advised for motorists. Some roads are no covered and higher elevations may have slick spots and ponding of water. The forecast is on the way on WQRM.

Theft from a motor vehicle in Kane on the 19th or 20th remains under investigation by troopers in Kane. Hilding Anderson of Kane told troopers that sometime over the reported period someone removed his wallet from his 97 Dodge truck. Those having information about this crime should contact troopers in Kane.

Criminal mischief on Saturday is still under investigation as Kane based state police investigate an incident where someone smashed the mailbox of William Hurrle of Lewis Run. Those having information about this incident are asked to contact troopers.

Criminal mischief on the 22nd or 23rd in Lafayette Township was investigated by Kane troopers after someone threw eggs at several vehicles and a residence. Eggs were thrown at vehicles owned by Bonnie Burrit, Richard Button and Leslie Scully, while eggs were thrown at the home of Paul Cobb.

And retail theft from the St. Marys Wal-Mart left a known juvenile in trouble with Ridgway based state police Sunday. Items were taken by the youth before the individual departed the store.

The Norwich Township Volunteer Fire Department will have a Halloween Party from 5:00 to 6:00pm on Monday. The event is being held for children to age of 12. Trick or Treat hours have been set for 6:00 to 7:30 on Monday.

And another free 4-week session will begin November 7th at the New Choices New options offices on Congress Street in Bradford. Classes will be held from 8:30am to 12:30pm, Monday through Thursday. For more information, contact News Choices/New Options.

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…A DUI related crash occurred Friday evening just before 11:30pm.  Ridgway based state police tell us Ridgway resident Joshua Girts, 22, was operating a Jeep Wrangler on Fairview Road when he lost control while downshifting.  This sent the Jeep into an embankment before the vehicle rolled, and ejected the driver.  Girts sustained no injuries but was taken to elk Regional for a BAC test.

Andrew Boots, 26, of Elwood City was pursued by Kane troopers on Saturday.  Boots was wanted for a felony charge at the time of the pursuit.  Charges were filed.

And harassment by 25 year old Heath Setzer of Austin against Ronald Setzer, also an Austin resident left the accused charged by Coudersport troopers after an incident on Sunday in Austin Borough.  Coudersport troopers tell us the victim received minor injuries to his neck.

Michael Haviland, 30, of Bradford was stopped Sunday evening just after 6:00pm for speeding on Route 219 in Foster Township.  At the time of the stop, Kane troopers discovered a strong odor or alcohol.  The accused was then arrested for DUI.

Janet Causer, Annin Township Tax Collector, told Kane troopers recently that some time between the 28th of September and October 1st someone entered her residence, removing a personal checkbook and money bag, containing several hundred dollars in cash and checks for school taxes.  Those having information pertaining to this theft should contact Kane PSP.

Burglary at a Bingham Township camp left a Harrison Valley man’s seasonal dwelling with damage to the front door jam.  This according to our checks with Coudersport troopers.  The incident occurred some time between the 18th and the 22nd.

A chainsaw was removed from a Potter County residence on the 1st, according to  Coudersport troopers.  Jody Nudd of Galeton told troopers that some time around 1:00pm someone removed a McCullough chainsaw from his residence.  Those having information about this theft should contact Coudersport troopers.

Checking the PennDOT schedule for this week.  In McKean County crack sealing will be done on the Bradford by-pass of Route 219.  Ditch cleaning and pipe flushing will be done on Halsey Hill.  Shoulder grading will be done on Route 155 in Liberty Township.  Hot patching will be done on Route 346 and Route 246 in the Eldred area, while side dozing will be done on Robert Road.  In Elk County…Berm maintenance will be done on Route 555 in the Medix Run area, while brushing will be done on Route 66 in the James City area.  And patching will be done on the Toby Road.

On the traffic and accident scene over night and yesterday…several accidents occurred in the WQRM listening area over the past 24 hour period.

A once vehicle accident around 6:15pm yesterday on Route 44, south of the state line in Ceres was responded to by troopers from Kane. Shinglehouse resident 18 year old Robert Fiske was traveling south when his 91 Dodge Dakota left the roadway. Fiske steered back onto Route 44 before the truck entered a yard where it rolled onto its roof. Fiske is being cited for not operating a vehicle at a safe speed. He and his 2 passengers from Shinglehouse and one from Eldred all escaped unharmed.

Coudersprot based state police responded to an accident on Route 144, 4/10 of a mile south of Osborne Road in Stewardson Township. Oil City resident 23 year old Jason McNellie was traveling south when a deer entered the roadway, causing McNellie to steer to the right where his 96 Toyota T-100 DX pick-up followed the western edge of Route 144 before striking a concrete culvert and coming to rest. The operator has been cited by Coudersport PSP for not operating on roadways laned for traffic and failure to use a seatbelt.

And a crash on Route 219 in Hamlin Township was responded to around 7:00am by Kane troopers. 27 year old Amy Solarszuk of Bradford was traveling too fast along Route 219 when failed to negotiate a curve, sending her vehicle tumbling 4 times. The operator was transported to Kane Community for treatment.

A burglary at a camp in Eldred Township on the Barden Brook Road is still under investigation. A neighbor noticed yesterday that their neighbor’s camp was illegally entered. Those having information about this incident should contact Kane PSP at 778-5555.

Theft from a Keating Township woman’s cigarette case between September 28th and yesterday remains under investigation. Coudersport troopers state that some time during the reported time frame, someone took 2 credit cards from Brenda Button of Austin, using them to make 2 gas purchases at Sheetz in Port Allegany. Anyone with information regarding this theft should contact Coudersport state police.

Harassment on Wednesday left 2 Mount Jewett residents in trouble with Kane PSP. Chad Berguson and Gordon Eschrich were involved in a verbal argument, which escalated into a physical altercation. Charges have been filed against both individuals.

And an accounting error lead to Jennifer Meeker of Kane telling Kane troopers that she believed someone had made an undetermined amount of purchases from LTD Commodities. Upon further investigation it was discovered there was an accounting error, and no crime was committed.

In the latest Adelphia news…Zito Media is currently transitioning Adelphia accounts for those in Port Allegany, Emporium and Coudersport over to the Zito Media system. According to James Rigas, company president, cable and high speed internet services should be transitioned by month’s end. Of the things Zito Media plans to change are an upgrade in the speed of their internet service at no additional cost to customers and the change of the billing cycles to one system of billing around the beginning of each month. One Mount Jewett eye soar has been sold, while two other buildings future is still unclear. The old Commercial Hotel was purchased by the borough after being owned by Robyn Lundren, who sold the building for the cost her Lundren’s fine for not demolishing the building sooner. Cost to the borough for the purchase was $525.85.

Hours were set by Eldred Township officials for trick-or-treating. Hours will be from 6:00 to 7:30 on October 31st in Eldred Township and Eldred Borough.

And a karaoke Halloween party is set for October 28th from 6:30 to 9:00 at the Kane Area Community Center. Food, games and costume contests will be provided. There is a cost. Music will be provided by Scott Smith.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…2 fatal accident occurred in the WQRM listening area over the past 24 hours. Ridgway based state police tell us Dan Ehrensberger, 57, of St. Marys was traveling south on Route 255 when he veered for unknown reasons. His 89 International tractor trailer left the roadway, went up an embankment and rolled onto the driver’s side. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

A fatal accident on Route 219 3 miles north of Lantz Corners was responded to by Kane based state police last evening. Kane resident Lawrence Reiner, 63, was traveling northbound, while an 89 Peterbuilt Tainker was being operated in a southerly direction by Keat Haycox of Indianapolis, IN. The Reiner Oldsmobile Bravada crossed the center line, striking unit 2. The Reiner vehicle then continued and rolled onto its roof, while the tanker jack-knifed and continued southbound. Reiner was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased. Haycox suffered only minor injury.

Harassment Tuesday is still under investigation by Ridgway based state police. Around 1:00pm in Kersey a known 30 year old female threatened 36 year old Tracy Nichols, also a Kersey resident.

A crash on Monday in Shippen Township was responded to by Emporium based state police just before 2:30pm. Clarence Wickett of St. Marys was traveling south on Route 46 when his 2003 Toyota Camery impacted an embankment. Wicket and his 3 passengers, Ethal Buerk, Florence Lucanik and Mary Jane Wickett were all wearing seatbelts. The investigation continues and charges are pending.

Theft by unlawful taking from various locations in Roulette is still under investigation by Coudersport based state police. They tell WQRM political signs were removed from several locations within the village between Monday and Tuesday. Those having information about this incident can contact Coudersport PSP.

Burglary from the Charleen Rubar residence in Oswayo is still under investigation by Coudersport based state police after someone entered the residence either Monday or Tuesday after forcing their way through the front door. A kerosene heater and a jewelry box were removed by those involved.

Burglary Wednesday of last week was investigated by Emporium troopers after someone entered the residence of Robert Baker before taking the victim’s prescription medication.

U.S. Representative William Clinger, who served the 5th Congressional District until his retirement in 1996 will have a post off ice in Warren named after him, pending Senate approval. Clinger represented the 5th Congressional district for nearly 20 years, beginning in 1979.

McKean County Fair Association members met Tuesday. During their meeting, Joe Irons and Larry Ackley were returned for another term as VP and Treasurer, respectively. It was also learned that Powers Great American Midway has made plans to be part of a larger fair, leaving the fair to decide on bringing in Ohio based Michael’s Amusements. The 2006 fair is set for August 20th to August 26th.

And the support for an increase to Pennsylvania’s minimum wage has increased with support from Dan Surra, State Representative from Kersey. The current minimum wage was set by Congress. If the measure passes all hurdles, by 2007, the wage would increase by $2.00.

This is WQRM Regional News for Wednesday, October 19, 2005

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…a 2 vehicle accident on Route 948, ½ mile north of Ridgway occurred just after 5:00pm yesterday. Scarlett Fulton, 38, of Ridgway was reportedly traveling north in an 88 Cadillac when she failed to see a 96 Chevrolet Corsica operated by 51 year old Jack Cyphert, Jr of Ridgway. Fulton struck the Cyphert vehicle as both were in the southbound lane and Cyphert was attempting a left turn into a private driveway. Fulton’s vehicle skidded across Route 948 and come to rest. The Cyphert vehicle skidded 40 feet, coming to rest in a ditch. Occupants of the Fulton vehicle refused treatment, while Cyphert was taken to Elk Regional for treatment of his moderate injuries. The investigation continues and charges are pending.

And a 1 vehicle mishap in Route 255, 2/10 mile south of Frey Road in Fox Township occurred yesterday morning around 7:15am. Troopers tell WQRM a17 year old Weedville resident was operating a 93 Ford Probe when the engine malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to stall. The power steering quit, sending the car off the roadway and into a utility pole. The driver and a 14 year old Weedville juvenile escaped unharmed.

Vandalism between the 9th and the yesterday at the Elkton Cemetery in Kersey remains under investigation. Ridgway based state police tell us someone pushed over 11 grave markers. Those having information about this incident are asked to contact troopers or Elk County Crimestoppers.

A tackle box was found and is being held by Ridgway PSP. The box was found on Ketner Road in Jones Township. To claim, call and describe.

And Kane troopers are investigating an incident of theft, which occurred between Friday and Monday. Between 5:00pm Friday and 6:00am Monday someone broke several locks on storage units owned by Minard Run Oil of Bradford. Removed were numerous items, including wrenches, chains and a sledgehammer. Those having information are asked to contact Kane PSP.

A water main break Tuesday in Bradford affected customers on Stone Avenue, according to reports. The break occurred around 3:30pm. Service was restored about 5 hours later, according to Kim Benjamin.

Representative Joe Scarnati will hold constituent hours Thursday at the Lewis Run Borough Office from 10:00am to 11:00am.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…all was quiet, according to our checks with state police in our listening area. There were no related incidences to report either.

We have a correction from yesterday…A DUI related stop by Coudersport was conducted. During the stop 46 year old Anthony Lamar was charged. He is not 16 as was originally reported.

Burglary between 9:00pm Sunday and 9:00am Monday in Fox Township remains under investigation after someone attempted entry into Cavalletts Ice Cream on the Million Dollar Highway in Elk County. Entry was not gained and those involved fled. Those having information about this incident are asked to contact Ridgway PSP at 776-6136.

And Ridgway based state police tell us criminal mischief between October 12th and yesterday afternoon remains under investigation. Some time during the given time frame someone drove off property owned by the Red Fern and into a ditch. In an attempt to get out, they spun their car tires, which threw mud onto a storage unit owned by Fritz’s Auto Center. They re-entered the parking lot and left.

The investigation surrounding the death of Bradford resident Matthew Hooper, who died 11 months ago on South Avenue in Bradford, is expected to end soon. Hooper died after being thrown from his SUV in the early hours of November 7th. It is unknown at which time Hooper actually died, according to reports. According to Brad Mason, Bradford Township police officer, no charges have been filed to date.

In Elk County government news, St. Marys residents may be asked to shell out more for taxes. A 5% increase may go into effect, giving the city an additional $124, 742 and change. The next council meeting is set for November 7th at 7:00pm in council chambers.

The Guidance Center has been given $700,000 for use in their literacy programs. Federal Representative John Peterson made the announcement Monday.

The McKean County Dental Center has a new home. Effective immediately, the staff can be found at 600 Chestnut Street, Suite 2 in Bradford. The organization began in the fall of 2002 under the organization of the county collaborative board.

A general business meeting will be held by the McKean County Housing Authority and A Partnership in Housing Inc. Thursday at 10:00am, at the HRA offices.

The next monthly meeting of the Smethport Chamber will be held tomorrow at 8:00am at the Visitor’s Center. The meeting is open to the public.

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…a Port Allegany resident was involved in a one vehicle accident early yesterday morning on Combs Creek Road at the intersection with Skinner Creek in Liberty Township. Jessica Trimm, 20, was operating a 2000 Ford Explorer when her vehicle hit a bridge. Kane based state police tell us Trimm was ejected from the vehicle before it vaulted over the creek and struck a tree. Trimm was not wearing a seatbelt and received serious injuries. The investigation continues.

An accident on Route 66, 1 mile south of the borough of Kane occurred late Sunday evening. Kane based state police tell us 20 year old Alex Kirsten, unknown hometown, was traveling north when his 2000 Plymouth Voyager left the roadway and impacted a ditch. Kirsten attempted to regain control, but was unable to do so, before the vehicle traveled north of Route 66, where it completely rolled once, leaving the operator with minor injuries.

A one vehicle accident involving a DuBois resident occurred Sunday Morning around 3:00. Ridgway based state police tell WQRM Sara Yeager, 20, was traveling south on Route 255 in a 96 Pontiac Sunfire when she lost control while rounding a curve. The car left the roadway, striking a road sign and then a telephone pole. It then continued south where it impacted a tree. Troopers found Yeager to be DUI. She was transported to Elk Regional for a BAC test. Charges will be filed.

Criminal mischief between this past Friday and Saturday in Eldred borough was investigated by troopers from Kane. Daniel Mackenzie told troopers that someone damaged a window on the side of his bus as it was parked at 16 Edison Street.

A one vehicle accident Saturday was responded to by Kane troopers around 6:30pm. Richard Bachman, 27, of Port Allegany was traveling south in a 98 Kia Sephia when Bachman drove through the intersection with Birch Run Road and Route 155 and into a yard where the vehicle struck a tree. 2 passengers, Gordon Gaines, 24, of Ceres, NY and passenger, 26 year old Edward Orlowski of Roulette were transported to Bradford Regional for treatment. Bachman and another passenger, 29 year old Chad Setzer of Port Allegany refused treatment. The investigation continues and charges against the operator are pending.

A one vehicle accident on Saturday in Emporium was responded to by troopers there after Michael Speath, 20, was involved in an accident on East Allegany Avenue around 6:10am. Troopers tell us Speath was traveling east when he fell asleep at the wheel, sending his 98 Ford Escort across the center line, across the westbound lane and into a curb. Speath and a juvenile passenger escaped unharmed. Charges are pending.

DUI charges against a 16 year old Austin resident have been filed. Coudersport based state police state that Anthony Lamar was observed early Saturday morning in the borough committing traffic violations. He was stopped and subsequently arrested.

Theft from a motor vehicle on Thursday is still under investigation by Kane troopers after someone removed an $800 Stihl MS-460 chainsaw from a truck owned by Richard Andrus of Emporium as the vehicle was parked on Pine Grove Road in Annin Township, McKean County. Those having information about this crime are asked to contact Kane PSP at 778-5555.

And theft from a camp along Route 321 in Wetmore Township remains under investigation after someone forced their way into a camp owned by William Workman of Valencia, PA. Removed from the seasonal dwelling were a BB gun rifle and a pellet pistol. The incident occurring between October 2nd and this past Friday remains under investigation.

A Smethport teen is still missing after leaving the high school Friday around 3:30pm. Jonathan David Howes was last seen at the school. Anyone with information pertaining to his whereabouts is asked to contact Kane state police.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…according to our checks with state police in the WQRM listening area, there were no accident and no related incidences to report.

Underage consumption by two 20 year olds in Benezette Township occurred early this morning, according to Ridgway based state police. Michael Nebel of Cabot and John Lang of Saxonburg were found with alcoholic beverages in Winslow Hill around 2:30. Both have been charged by Ridgway PSP with underage drinking.

Emporium troopers are investigating a burglary which occurred between last Sunday and yesterday in Shippen Township. The incident occurred as someone kicked in a door on a camp owned by Donald Witmer of Greencastle. After entry, a firearm was taken. No further details are available.

Burglary along Route 155, in Liberty Township remains under investigation by Kane troopers. They tell us someone entered a trailer owned by Brenda Barber of Port Allegany. Once inside, approximately $10.00 in change was taken. Those having information about thid burglary are asked to contact Kane PSP.

2 burglaries in Potter County are under investigation by troopers in Coudersport. Between Monday and Tuesday of this week someone forcibly entered a camp on Notch Road. The owner of the camp is unknown at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers.

And a camp on Upper Bark Shanty Road in Keating Township sustained damage when someone pried on the front door in an attempt to gain entry between September 1st and Tuesday of this week. No further details are available at this time. Damage is estimated at $150.00. Those having information about this incident should contact Coudersport PSP.

And a Governor’s Veteran’s Outreach Specialist will be on hand at the Bradford Careerlink on Davis Street Wednesday from 10 to 4. Those stopping to speak with the representative should bring their DD-214.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…Coudersport troopers responded to a DUI related crash just before 4:00am. William Jones, 37, of Killbuck, NY was operating a 93 Ford Tempo when the car left Route 155 on the east berm, struck 2 mailboxes and a cement retaining wall. Joes was taken before District Justice Annette Easton, arraigned and sent to the Potter County bail. Bail was set at $3,500.

Ridgway troopers tell us the investigation into a recovered stolen vehicle continues by Bradford police after a Chevrolet Cavalier was recovered in Jones Township at the intersection of Routes 321 and 219.

Burglary on the 8th in Jones Township remains under investigation by Ridgway troopers who tell WQRM someone entered the home of Frank Maletto of Wilcox sometime between Noon and 8:45pm. Removed from the residence was a Phillips DVD Digital Surround System, a HP Photo Smart digital camera and a Remington 760 pump Game Master rifle. Those having information about this burglary are asked to contact Ridgway PSP or Elk County Crimestoppers.

A new refuse plan is in place for Eldred Borough residents. During the Otto Township Supervisor evening meeting held Wednesday, a resolution was adopted which includes quarterly billing for residents of Eldred Borough, while Otto Township residents will continue to be billing monthly. In other news Trick or Treat hours were set by Otto Township for the 31st from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

And Representative Martin Causer will hold constituent hours today from 9:00am to 10:00am at the Emporium Borough office, from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Port Allegany borough office and from 12:30 to 1:30 at the Eldred Borough office.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…an accident yesterday morning on Route 6, west of Kane borough was responded to by state police there. Robert Fetter, 57, of Brockway was turning his freightliner into a business when one of the rear tires entered a ditch, causing the trailer to fall on to its side. A utility pole was sheared during the accident. Route 6 had to be closed for about 5 hours while crews transferred the butane mixture on the trailer. No injuries were reported.

DUI early yesterday left a known juvenile in trouble with Coudersport troopers. State police tell us a known 17 year old was stopped on Route , just west of Close’s Lumber Company for a traffic violation at which time it was discovered the driver was intoxicated. Charges are pending.

A burglary investigation surrounding an incident in Wilcox remains under investigation by Ridgway PSP. An unknown person entered the home of Joseph Grasser between 6:30 and 10:20pm after forcing a rear window. Once inside those involved removed about $750.00 in cash before exiting through a basement door. Anyone with information about this crime should contact Ridgway state police.

Drug possession on Tuesday has left a Wellsville resident in trouble with Coudersprot based state police after they stopped the young man. Eric Luce, 19, was stopped just west of Route 244 in Genesee Township, when troopers discovered the accused was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Luce was arraigned and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Ridgway based state police tell WQRM ARG Resources of Kane was the victim of an act of criminal mischief between the 7th and the 10th. Someone threw rocks at the windshield of a truck owned by the company.

Criminal mischief between Thursday and Friday of last week remains under investigation by Kane troopers. Tires were damaged by an unknown person using a sharp object. Damaged was done to a tire on a vehicle owned each of the victims including Creg Green, Rose Mary Smith, Doreen Eldred and Evelyn Bhe. Anyone having information about this incident is asked to contact Kane PSP.1

Signage is to be placed by PennDOT along Route 219 near the Elm Street and Foreman Street exits. Signs are set to be placed when US Route 219 is reconstructed, indicating exits for historic districts.

Senator Joe Scarnati will hold constituent hours Friday at the Bradford Chamber of Commerce from 1:00am to Noon. He’ll also be at the Kane Borough office from 12:30 to 1:30pm.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…a one vehicle accident yesterday morning in Shippen township was responded to by troopers in Emporium around 7:20am. Coudersport resident Gerald Bailey, Jr. was traveling south on Route 155 when his 95 Dodge Caravan struck a deer crossing the roadway. Bailey escaped unharmed.

Kane troopers tell us they responded to a one vehicle accident yesterday, shortly before 6:00am. According to troopers who responded, Garey Smith, 54, of Osceola Mills was northbound in a 2003 ford Ranger when a deer entered the roadway, causing Smith to swerve, drive off the east side of Route 155 and into a ditch where the truck’s airbag deployed. Smith was wearing his seatbelt and received no injuries.

Galliker’s Dairy of Johnstown was the victim of a reported act of criminal mischief yesterday in the Fishing Creek area. Coudersport based state police tell us several known juveniles threw rocks in the vicinity of the little league fields in Roulette. One of the rocks hit the passing freightliner, breaking the windshield. Those involved will be charged with criminal mischief.

Harassment against a Port Allegany resident by a Roulette resident is still under investigation by Coudersport based state police. Yesterday around 1:00pm the accused, Randy Cornelius made harassing statements against his landlord, Lisa Main while the two were involved in a dispute.

Harassment against an Emporium resident on Sunday was investigated by troopers there after someone reportedly beat up Michael Housler. The victim failed to provide further information.

Port Allegany School Superintendent received a raise of 3.5 percent during the board’s Monday evening meeting. Tony Flint will now receive a salary of nearly $96,900. Several appointments were also made, including coaching positions and the resignation of a teacher’s aide.

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…a DUI related stop by Coudersport troopers occurred yesterday morning around 4:00. Erika Billings, 23, of New Kensington was stopped at the intersection of Ross Street and Park Avenue for an equipment violation when troopers discovered the operator was also intoxicated. Charges are being filed.

A 2 vehicle crash on Sunday along Route 219 was responded to by Ridgway state police around 5:00pm. The report issued states that a 15 year old Brockway resident was riding a motorcycle when he cut in front of the path of a 98 Plymouth Voyager driven by St. Marys resident Christine Hansen. The juvenile driver was thrown from the cycle when his bike was hit by Hansen’s vehicle. He sustained minor injuries. He will also be cited for traffic violations. Hansen and her passenger, Brockway resident Dennis Hansen escaped unharmed.

A hit and run Friday in Coudersport remains under investigation by troopers there after someone driving a red Ford pickup backed into a a vehicle operated by Francis Newton of Coudersport. The truck doing the damage has a PA registration of YLL2993. Those having information about this incident are asked to contact Coudersport based state police.

Simple assault on Saturday left a Mills resident in trouble with Coudersport based state police. Troopers tell WQRM Robert Vanetten, 47, pushed a juvenile around the living room of their residence. Vanetten was cited for simple assault and harassment before being arraigned and sent to the Potter County jail. He was also given a temporary restraining order.

An accident near the Bradford Regional Airport on Friday claimed the life on Erie resident Heinz Shulz. Shulz was operating a LifeStar helicopter bound for the airport when communication was lost shortly before the chopper went down. Shulz was a veteran pilot, and the only occupant of the chopper at the time of the incident.

Both a Pittsfield and a Russell resident died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident in Conewango township Saturday night. Conewango township police state that an auto driven by Daniel Sullivan was southbound while a car driven by Russell resident Sherry Bimber was northbound. Police state that the Sullivan vehicle crossed the center line, hit a bank and went airborne. The Sullivan vehicle then entered the path of the Wegg car when it rolled. Richard Chase, 18, of Pittsfield was taken to Warren General Hospital, as was Donald Wilfong of Russell. Both men were pronounced dead at the hospital. Wegg was taken to the hospital, treated and released and Sullivan was listed in fair condition at Hamot Medical Center in Erie. The incident is still under investigation at this time.

Checking the PennDOT schedule for this week…in McKean County, crack sealing will be done on Route 219, Lantz corners to route 59. Ditch cleaning will done on McCrea Brook and Bells Run. Shoulder grading will be done on Route 46 Corwin Corners to Bradford. And hot patching will be done on Bingham Road and Hazel Hurst Hill. In Elk County, crack sealing will be done on Route 219, Johnsonburg to Wilcox. Shoulder cutting will be done on SR 3002 Halton Area.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…a one vehicle accident yesterday in McKean County left an Emporium resident with no injuries. Kane based state police tell us Caleb Salter, 19, was traveling north on Route 46 when his 2003 Honda left the roadway. Oversteering to correct the problem, Salter’s vehicle crossed both lanes of traffic and impacted a guiderail, where it became disabled. The investigation continues and Salter escaped without injury.

A hit and run yesterday morning in Keating Township left 2 mailboxes owned by Smethport resident Randy Vangor with damage. Kane troopers tell WQRM some time around 2:30am someone exited Irons Hollow, turning westbound onto Route 6. At that time, the unknown vehicle struck the mailboxes before fleeing. Those having information about this incident are asked to contact Kane PSP at 778-5555.

A Ludlow resident was cited for public drunkenness this morning by Kane based state police. A report issued states that 27 year old Amanda McGuire was seen by troopers in a public place when she was obviously under the influence and annoying those around her. No further details are available.

Burglary between September 8th and this past Wednesday remains under investigation. Coudersport resident Lewis Kaple told troopers in Coudersport that someone entered the victim’s garage and took a wood splitter valued at $300.00. The wood splitter is described as an orange wood splitter with a black push arm. Those having information about this missing wood splitter are asked to contact Coudersport based state police.

Theft from a motor vehicle between Wednesday and Thursday of this week remains under investigation by Ridgway troopers. Maria Cherry told troopers that sometime over the 2 day span someone took her 96 Dodge Avenger, red in color and displaying PA Registration FGC2842. Anyone having informaiton about this missing vehicle should contact Ridgway PSP.

A Kersey resident is in trouble with Ridgway state police after the unnamed individual rode an ATV through 2 lawns, causing damage. After apprehension the individual was taken to Elk Regional for a BAC test. Various charges are pending.

And criminal mischief on property owned by Rocky Mountain Foundation in Benezette Township, Elk County remains under investigation. Ridgway state police tell WQRM the known actor was seen cutting a lock on a gate on the property. Those having information about this incident should contact troopers.

President Judge john Cleland is expected to take some time off after a horse riding accident recently. Court Administrator Joanne Bly is quoted as saying the Cleland is expected to make a full recovery. Other than stating that Cleland suffered a broken jaw and slight concussion, no further details are available. In Cleland’s absence, Judge Yoder will handle related duties.

Several Port Allegany student are in hot water after attending a party Saturday, after homecoming. Marc Budd, High School Principal was stated as saying that those involved in the violations of school policy were not suspended or given detention. No further details are available.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…according to our checks with state police in our listening area, all was quiet. There were no related incidences to report either.

Burglary at a camp on Price Town Road in Fleetwood, PA remains under investigation by Coudersport based state police. The incident occurred between September 25th and yesterday as someone forced entry into the camp and a garage on the property. Those with information about this incident should contact troopers in Coudersport.

An accidental fire in Smethport Tuesday was caused by a construction worker laying rubber roofing material when heat transferred through metal flashing and ignited material in a wall. The incident occurred at property owned by Bob and Connie Lovell of Lawrenceville. Damage is pegged at $30,000.

A check on a suspicious vehicle on Route 219 in Hamlin Township on Monday led to 2 known adults getting into trouble with Kane based state police. Around 1:40pm, troopers stopped the vehicle in question. Running a check on it, they found the vehicle’s owner was wanted. During the interview of the occupants, the odor of alcohol and marijuana was detected. The operator was taken into custody at this time and given a chemical test.

Criminal trespass on Monday in Hector Township, Potter County left a hunter in trouble with property owner Stanley Rzepski of Pilesgrove, NJ. The vehicle in question driven by the suspected hunter displayed a Massachusetts plate.

Theft from a Hebron Township residence remains under investigation by Coudersport troopers after someone removed a Stihl chainsaw from property owned by Charles Counts of Coudersport. Those haing information about this theft are asked to contact Coudersprot PSP.

And theft from Bob Cummins Construction between September 19th and the 29th remains under investigation by troopers in Kane. Kane PSP tell WQRM the theft occurred as someone took an Ultrasonic Leak Test System from the victim’s property. Those having information about this theft should contact Kane based state police.

During a Tuesday meeting, Benezette Township supervisors debated the possibility of a police force. Proposed was a regional force for Elk County, with some at the recent meeting talking about the rise of taxes to afford such a move. The next supervisor’s meeting is set for November 1st at 7:00pm at the township building.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…a one vehicle accident yesterday morning in Genesee Township was responded to by Coudersport based state police around 6:15am. Louis Crippen, 48, of Sabinsville was traveling north on SR 1011. Crippen was unable to see the stop sign. He then drove through the intersection with SR 1018, sending his 98 Mack Truck off the roadway before it rolled onto the passenger’s side, coming to rest in a field.

An accident in North Bingham, Potter County last evening was responded to by Coudersport PSP around 7:00pm. Troopers tell us a 16 year old was operating an ATV when a horse ran in front of him, causing the operator to swerve in an attempt to miss the animal. Applying the brakes, the juvenile lost control of the ATV, causing it to roll and throw the driver. The Honda Big Red ATV was then pushed by the driver back to his residence where his father transported him to Charles Cole for treatment. Summary charges are pending.

An ATV accident on Water Street Extension in Johnsonburg yesterday was responded to by Ridgway based state police. According to responding troopers, Jessica Plants was operating a 2001 Honda 300 EX when she lost control sending the ATV off the roadway where it hit a tree. Both Plants and her passenger, Miranda Hoyt who sustained moderate injuries, were taken by ambulance to Elk Regional for treatment.

Underage drinking yesterday in roulette has left a 13 year old in trouble with Coudersport troopers. Charges are being filed.

Theft Monday at the Wal-Mart in St. Marys remains under investigation by Ridgway based state police after someone allegedly entered a vehicle owned by John Schloder of Kersey. Once inside the glove box was reportedly entered when a checkbook was taken. Those with information are asked to contact Ridgway PSP or Elk County Crimestoppers.

Harassment between Sunday and Tuesday has left Daniel Calhoun of Shinglehouse in trouble after he repeatedly contacted Marcus Smith, also a Shinglehouse resident.

And a Turtlepoint man was charged by Coudersport state police after he reportedly scattered garbage on property owned by Ronn Thompson Sr. of Shinglehouse. According to troopers the incident occurred between July 1st and August 31st in Sharon Township.

A fire at Zippo Manufacturing yesterday morning was responded to by Bradford Township firefighters around 1:30. A fire within the filtration system left employees outside for a short time while 16 firefighters were no the scene for nearly 2 hours.

Coudersport resident John Bunnell, according to a report in today’s Bradford Era is not wanted by authorities on vehicular homicide charges as was reported earlier.

Governor Ed Rendell has made plans to release $1.16 million in funds for recycling in the commonwealth. Of the money, Elk County will receive $12,497 and Cameron County will get $4,521. Funds will go toward salary expenses for recycling coordinators.

Port Allegany Music Boosters will meet today at 7:00pm at the Elementary School.

On the traffic and accident scene overnight and yesterday…all was quiet, according to our checks with state police in our listening area. There were no related incidences to report either.

Burglary in Spring Creek township, Elk County was investigated by troopers in Ridgway recently. Troopers tell WQRM some time between October 2nd and the 3rd someone broke a window on a camp owned by Cindy Koleck of New Bethleham. The camp was then entered and a one gallon wine bottle was removed. Total damage and loss to the camp is $65.00.

And criminal mischief on the 15th or 16th in Kersey has left a known 19 year old in trouble. Charges are pending against the individual who, according to Ridgway state police, rode an ATV through the lawn of two people on David Street.

It was discovered that a Coudersport man was wanted after an incident in New York. 41 year old John Bunnell was stopped by Erie County deputies Sunday morning in Alden at which time they discovered the man was intoxicated. Taken into custody, Bunnell was arrested and a computer check was done, when authorities discovered Bunnell was wanted in Pennsylvania for flight from a motor vehicle accident. The suspect is currently being held in New York state.

During a Monday meeting, Port Allegany Borough Council discussed the rise of taxes, the purchase of a new siren and the possibility of Zito Media airing high school sporting events…something that had been done by the now extinct Port Allegany Cable TV outfit.

A bill re-introduced by Senator Joe Scarnati would increase the money paid out by Pennsylvania on land the commonwealth owns. As introduced by Scarnati, the bill would increase the current $1.20 per acre cost to $3.60 per acre. Raising this money would help keep the cost of property tax down for residents of Pennsylvania.

And St. Marys City Council heard from the sewage treatment plant manager on the purchase of a vacuum truck and chassis during last evening’s meeting. Purchase of the truck would help in cleaning up manholes and storm sewers. Purchase of the truck would help in clean up of sand, grit and other foreign matter. More discussion during the next monthly meeting will be done. The next meeting is set for October 17th at 7:00pm.

On the traffic and accident scene over the past weekend…an accident on Baker Creek road in Hebron Township on Saturday was responded to by Coudersport based state police at 7:20pm. Heidi honey, 27, of Coudersport was reportedly traveling south when she was distracted by two passengers in her vehicle. Her 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveled off the roadway and over an embankment before rolling onto its roof. Upon further investigation, troopers discovered Honey was actually intoxicated.

Fleeing and eluding police on Saturday in Keating Township left 42 year old Terry Isadore in trouble with Kane PSP. According to troopers, a traffic stop was initiated along Route 646, when Isadore refused to stop. Following a brief chase, Isadore was taken into custody, taken to the Kane barracks and proceeded before being taken to the county jail. Charges were filed.

A fatal collision on Saturday in Fox Township was responded to by Ridgway state police around 6:30am. According to a report given by Ridgway PSP, Winston Streich, 64, of Weedville was traveling north on Route 255. While negotiating a right curve, his 2000 Ford Ranger left the roadway, went over an embankment and went airborne before striking a tree. The truck then overturned before coming to rest.

A theft over the weekend remains under investigation after someone entered a car owned by Justin Stuck’s girlfriend. Kane based state police tell us the incident occurred around noon in Smethport as someone entered the vehicle, taking a CD player, and portable hand held radio, valued at $845.00.Those with information about this crime are asked to contact Kane PSP at 778-5555.

Criminal mischief Friday on Route 44 in Millport, Sharon Township remains under investigation. Coudersport based state police tell us Ian Jones of Coudersport told troopers that at approximately 7:45pm something shattered his vehicle’s driver’s side window as he was driving. Those who may have information about this incident are asked to contact Coudersport troopers at 274-8690.

Disorderly conduct and harassment Friday has left a Shinglehouse resident in trouble after a Friday incident in Shinglehouse. Coudersport based state police tell us Matthew Louser, 19, punched 22 year old Ryan Dexter during an disagreement in the borough. Later, the two individuals moved on to another location on Pearl Street where obsceneties were exchanged by both individuals. Charges were filed against both Louser and Dexter by responding state police.

22 year old Justin Tubbs of Harrison Valley was charged after an incident in Genesee, where he was a menace to society Friday evening. Coudersport based state police report that Tubbs was seen along Route 449 by troopers. Once approached by troopers, Tubbs began yelling, using foul language. Refusing treatment by responding medics, Tubbs was eventually released to an immediate family member.

A 2 vehicle accident Tuesday of last week was responded to by Emporium based state police around 7:35am. 17 year old Emporium resident Joseph Patton was traveling west on 5th Street in Emporium, when he pulled into the path of a 1990 Chrysler driven by Shawna Hostler of Emporium. After colliding both units came to rest in a private lawn. Hostler and her 2 passengers sustained minor injuries as a result of the accident, while Patton and his passenger escaped unharmed.

Drug possession a week ago yesterday left a known person in trouble with Emporium troopers after the unnamed individual was caught with a white substance. Charges are pending the outcome of lab results.

Criminal mischief in Emporium between August 24th and the 26th left a mailbox owned by Twila Grimm of Moore Hill Road with damage after someone struck the same with a blunt object and fled.

And criminal mischief on the Gardeau Road between the 24th and the 26th left a mailbox owned by James Geelen of Austin with damage.

20 of the Michigan tourists on a tour boat in Lake George in upstate New York died after the boat capsized Sunday. It’s believed at this time that a wake from a larger vessel is partially to blame for the incident. Many of those on the boat were not wearing life vests on the boat that went down around 3:00pm.

Checking PennDOT’s maintenance schedule for this week. Cracking sealing on Route 219, from Lantz Corners to Route 59 will be done, as well as Ditch cleaning on McCrea Brook and Bells Run. Shoulder grading will take place on Route 59, Ormsby to Smethport and Route 770 Marshburg to Route 219. Hot patching will be done on Bingham Road. In Elk County, crack sealing will be done on Route 219 Johnsonburg to Wilcox, along with Washington Street and Theresia Street.
