LOCAL EVENTS IN THE SAM LISTENING AREA:
In Bradford, the Bradford, Pa. Refinery now American Refining Group, Inc. is celebrating their 125th Anniversary. The refinery was founded in 1881 and is now the oldest continuously operating refinery in the United States and the oldest processing crude oil in the world.
Events celebrations will include a parade at 5PM on Thursday, September 7th
on Main Street in Bradford. Friday, September 8th from 8AM to 4PM will be a Swap Meet at the ARG Main Grounds, Refinery Tours from 9AM to 3PM on the ARG Main Grounds, Pre-Auction Mixer at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Sports and Fitness Center on Campus Drive in Bradford from 5PM to 7PM and at 7PM will be a Oil and Gas Industry Auction at Pitt-Bradford Sports and Fitness Center.
Events celebrations for Saturday, September 9th include Swap Meet at theARG Main Grounds from 8AM to 2PM, Refinery Tours at the ARG Main Grounds from 9AM to 1PM and Dancin’ in the Street on Main Street from 5PM to 8PM.
Sunday, September 10th will be the Autumn Daze Car Show on Main Street in Bradford from 8AM to 4PM.
Round and Square Dance on Friday, September 22th from 7PM to 10PM at Hull’s Barn on Hamlin Street in Smethport. Music by Keith Blackman Square Dance Band and cost
Is $4.00. Beverages and snacks available plus a corn roast and pie sale. Benefits is for the Smethport Senior Center.
Mark your Calendars: for a Victorian Weekend in Smethport on Saturday, Sept. 23rd 10AM is Racing Registration at the McKean County Courthouse. The Smethport Gold Watch Cycling Races began back in the 1890’s by F.C. Pierce and M. L. Armstrong and continues today with the winner being presented a gold watch. Noon the races begin. 3PM is the Race awards ceremony at the McKean County Courthouse. At Hamlin Lake Park from 10AM to 4PM there will be food and craft vendors, cider press, small engine display, canoe rides sponsored by the Boy Scouts, Hamlin Lake Bucktail Encampment I re-enactor, carriage rides, old time photos with fee for both, 4PM on the grounds of the Colonial on Main Street will be a Victorian Attire Contest they will be judged and prizes along with free hard ice cream samples donated by Smethport Drive-In. 5PM local restaurants will have special dinner menus and at 7PM there will be Country/Gospel Concert in the Park near the pool there will be a free will offering and concession stand will be open.
Sunday, September 24th from Noon to 4PM at Hamlin Lake Park will be food and craft vendors, cider press, small engine display. Canoe rides by the Boy Scouts, Bucktail Encampment, Company I re-enactors, carriage rides and old time photos with fee charged. 2 to 5 the Smethport Garden Club will have Tour of Historic Homes. They will
start at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church. The tour will be $5.00 and the feature business is “Keppel Stone Works” 3PM on the Island of Hamlin Lake Park there will be a Mini-Tractor Pull children and adult categories, Old Fashion Children’s Games, apple dunking, bas races, horseshoes, spoon races and more, Triathlon – 2 person teams of croquet, horseshoe, wash board cost $1 per person with prizes. 5PM is a community-wide picnic at Hamlin Lake Park Pavilion sponsored by Smethport Ministerium and the Smethport Chamber of Commerce: Picnic foods include hamburgers, hot dogs, coffee and lemonade. Remember bring your own table setting, chairs and a dish to pass.
